Abstract: Catalysis is an enzyme that decomposes hydrogen peroxide into oxygen and water. In this lab we will conduct a series of experiments to determine the affects of; pH, temperature, and concentration change on such catalysis. After completing the experiments we determined that catalase works most efficiently when in a 27°c, 50% (5 ml of catalase – 5ml of water), and a normal body pH of 7°.

Factors Affecting Rate of Enzyme Activity
Part 1: [Question]
Enzyme activity works best on average when it is in a solution that has 27°c, 50% concentration (5 ml of catalase – 5ml of water), and A normal body pH of 7°. So by conducting this experiment we were actually able to see how the changes in its surrounding solution changed the speed it witch catalase decomposed hydrogen peroxide into oxygen and water. When not in the stated conditions the catalase would either work so fast that it malfunctioned or very slow, and in both circumstances it took the catalase a longer time to completely breakdown hydrogen peroxide.
Part 2: [Predictions]
Temperature – I predict that when the temperature is higher the catalase will work best, because if catalase is found in our body then that means that its most favoured temperature is 36.6 °c, so that must mean that when the temperature is lower or higher then 36.6 °c then the catalase feels uncomfortable (like a human on the north pole) and starts to malfunction and take a longer time to break down hydrogen peroxide.
pH – I predict that when the pH is normal catalase will work best, because if catalase is found in our body then that means that its most favoured pH is 7.365, so that must mean that when the pH is lower or higher then 7 then the catalase feels uncomfortable and begins to malfunction and take a longer time to break down hydrogen peroxide.
