According to the institute for women’s policy research, women paid 80 cents for every dollar a male earned. The gap may seem small and a vocal minority suggests that is not enough of a difference to start a political movement however any amount of difference is still too large. Journal of International Diversity in 2012 calculated that in corporate America when a male made $824 then the female counterpart makes only $669. That 20 percent comes out to real money difference which can change how someone lives their life. This 20 percent seems not as large as it used to be however that difference should be zero. The effect of the difference psychologically harming. Women will believe they are only worth 20 percent of male when in reality everyone is equal. The other alarming part is that a report from the United States Joint Economic Committee ranking member Martin Heinrich reported that women with a graduate degree earn $5000 less than male. This difference can discourage women from pursuing a college degree since even with a degree not only will they be behind men in pay, but now they also will be in longer lasting debt. Some would argue that women would benefit from trying to potentially get ahead or at least on the equal pay level as men exiting college by working four years earlier.
