When a person is behind the wheel of a car, that person’s mind needs to be focused on their surroundings and other drivers. There was a partial list of what counts as a distraction in EndDD, a blog with an overwhelming story of a girl who lost her life because someone was doing one of these things listed: using a cell phone or smart phone, including texting, eating and drinking, smoking, attending to or disciplining child passengers, grooming, reading, including maps, using a navigation system, watching a video, adjusting a radio, CD player, or MP3 player or adjusting temperature controls. (EndDD) College senior Casey died within five hours of being struck by a distracted driver while she was at a crosswalk in daylight hours just like any other person. Casey was somebodies daughter. Distracted drivers not only take away lives, but they destroy their own life by having to live with the remorse of taking away a person’s last breath. It has come to the attention of the national news that no state has moved to ban the increasingly popular technology for all drivers, but thirty-one states and Washington, D.C., ban novice drivers from using hands-free as well as hand-held devices. (David Hosansky) Concerning the safety of other drivers and passengers, all states should ban the use of mainstream devices. Realistically, any interference with people’s concentration during driving can cause unnecessary accidents and potentially loss of life.
Today our society presumes they are overloaded with duties and think they are “skilled” enough to multitask while driving, but no one can foretell what will happen next.
"If you are a determined multitasker, it's an addiction—and you can't stop it," said the fifty-nine-year-old Stevens. (Stefan Kiesbye) Many people see multitasking the same way as Mr. Stevens, but they are incorrect in many ways. The driver can simply put their phone in their purse, away from hands reach, pull over at the side of the road or just wait until they have reached at their destination. Even a two letter text can send anyone to the morgue. The people and the environment around you are basically in your hands; one can either harm it or nourish
it.
No matter how skilled or how important someone thinks something is, nothing is more important than playing attention to one’s surrounding. Therefore, any little distraction can cause someone to poorly drive their vehicle and become a method for murder. Next time the phone rings while behind the wheel, who will be willing to pick it up? It is strongly advised no one does.
