Having a baby is a wonderful experience, but sometimes their sensitive skin is difficult to bear. Even though many conditions are fairly minor and don’t really hurt your baby, as a mother, you want to make it better. Here are some common conditions babies with sensitive skin can develop and ways to treat them.
Eczema
Eczema is a skin rash that is very common in babies. Twenty percent of babies will develop eczema. It usually starts on the cheeks and scalp, and can spread to arms, legs, and chest as it progresses. The rash will come and go. Like other skin issues, it flares up at times, and goes away. It’s not contagious, but it can be unsightly, and extremely itchy and uncomfortable for your little one. …show more content…
It can be made worse by stress, temperature, and some soaps or fragrances. To help with flare ups, some doctors believe that daily bathing with a mild soap can help minimize the spreading of eczema. Keeping the skin moisturized is also important for keeping eczema in check. Let the skin breathe by using natural fabrics like cotton. If the eczema does not improve, medicated ointment from a dermatologist may be needed.
Nappy Rash
Nappy rash is something that occurs when a baby’s bottom becomes irritated and red. It can occur from diarrhea or even certain nappy brands can cause a rash if your baby has sensitive skin. It is important to keep the skin dry when a rash occurs. Use a rash cream at every change to make sure the skin has a barrier from moisture. It may also be a good idea to let your baby air out in between changings. Just lay down a towel and let them go commando. If the rash begins to blister or bleed, your baby should be seen by a doctor.
