Does getting paid $15 an hour sound good? How about getting paid that much for flipping a burger? The Government has been talking about increasing minimum wage. It has been an increasingly controversial topic in recent years. Minimum is the lowest legal hourly wage a worker can get paid. That being said, waiters are paid significantly less because the government believes that their tips will make up the difference. However most of the time it doesn’t make up the difference. Minimum wage is paid to people whose jobs require little or no skill. These are jobs that anyone can do. Conversely people of all ages work minimum wage jobs. Low wage workers would see a big boost in their weekly paycheck. This is great news considering the current minimum wage. The current wage is $7.25.They would basically receive 2 times the money they are making now if the wage is increased to $15.This can provide a huge relief to low-wage workers. It will be a huge relief because the current minimum wage is not a living wage. A living wage is a wage where the individual can live a normal standard of living. Minimum wage workers make way less than this. This means they live in poverty. Poverty does not bring happiness and joy into one’s life. Not only with it help current low-wage worker but it will help them move up in the world. They can use this new money to gain new skills. These skills can be earned though furthering their education. More education can be found through a university or a trade school. Education is important because it is the sole reason people get stuck in low-wage jobs. This new education will make the worker more valuable and experienced than a high school dropout. Many people say minimum wage only brings negatives but it provides a huge positive. The positive is that they gain a substantial amount of money. This money will help them gain more skills. These skills will springboard them into a better position in life.
