Many business owners have argued that raising the minimum wage would cause hardship and cause businesses to raise their prices, but many workers argue that raising the minimum wage is necessary to help low-income workers to get out of poverty. Two main issues that workers face are insufficient wages to support their families which causes them to depend on government funding. Secondly, workers are faced with decreased job satisfaction due to making low wages. In my opinion, minimum wages should be increased because it will allow workers to feel that they have job security. Additionally, increased pay will allow people to further support themselves and avoid taking benefits from the government and can use…

Right now if I make minimum wage there are programs that subsidize my income, such as food stamps and Medicaid. If we raise the minimum wage people wont qualify for the subsidies and won’t be able to afford to live. Raising the minimum wage diminishes the need for some government programs.…

in lemons). Cooper has a very valid point in this statement. By raising the minimum wage, it allows people to function on their own. It allows them to feel secure about their money, more so then they did before. They feel that they have some breathing room in the situation, and don’t have to scramble for money. Yes, raising the minimum wage will not help immediately, but in the long run it will have a lasting effect on the person’s financial situation. Last year my mom received a small raise, and it didn’t really help at first, but later down the road we were able to pay off some things and get ahead. People just need that little bit of security to help them keep going in…

The government should not raise the minimum wage.Nothing good can come from raising the minimum wage. And if any good comes from it will be cancelled out by all the bad. As unfortunate as it sounds, raising the minimum wage will cause a drop in the job market. If a major retailer had to raise their wages for their workers they would have to get the money from somewhere. That means a raise in the price of goods and the laying off of positions that could be replaced by automated systems. The repercussion of this is an increase in Demand and a lowering of Supply. This means along with the minimum wage increasing, so would the expenses associated with living. There would be an increase in the price of goods and services. A job Shortage would…

Think back to the time when you were a young child. You remember that at a certain age Mom and Dad thought it was important for you to understand the value of a dollar. In order to teach you this they gave you an allowance every week with the understanding that you would earn it by completing a weekly chore. As you got older you desired more money to purchase the things you wanted. The agreement for more money came along with more responsibility and chores. The same perspective can easily be translated into the purpose for a minimum wage standard. An individual’s wage should be merited for their performance, knowledge, and skill level. Otherwise the individual worker will expect continued monetary increases for the same level or amount of work produced. By tying in labor, skill, and education increases with financial increases, workers would be more driven to progress in their preferred field. Therefore, when making attempts to increase an even higher minimum wage, we need to stop and realize wages should be based on an individual’s knowledge and skill level and not focus on natural human empathy. After all, you worked to get where you’re at, shouldn’t everyone?…

When you hear high school and college students talk about their employment experiences, all they seem to say is how they don't get paid enough. I've even said that myself quite a few times. Well, in a way, they are right; but this statement does not only include that average student, it also includes many adults and families who are trying to live on minimum wage jobs. In today's society, this is almost impossible. An increase in the federal minimum wage is in the interest of the nation as a whole, although it will impose some costs.…

One of the most frequent questions being asked is whether minimum wage should be raised to $15.00 per hour or not. I do feel minimum wage should be raised, but raising the minimum wage to $15.00 per hour is more than our economy can afford. Raising minimum wage to $15.00 dollars per hour would only make the cost of living increase. The prices of clothes, gas, food, etc. would sky rocket. The unemployment rate would increase, because employers would hire fewer workers, and instead more jobs would become replaced with robots.…

Hello Julia, I agree with you. minimum wage should not be raised because there will be high price production, and inflation, which will hurt consumer especially the low-income family. Raising the minimum wage commonly may be seen as a way to give a low-income worker a raise, but it resulted in a surplus since the minimum wage is a price floor. Surplus happens when the quantity of supply is greater than the quantity of demand. In this case, more people are willing to work than employers are willing to hire at the stage of minimum wage price rising and it will result in high unemployment. There would be a high unemployment rate because employers are forced to pay more which likely lead them to hire fewer workers in the workplace, especially for the small business or companies. Fewer people getting hiring mean less work is being done.…

In order for any change to happen people must first have to start by replacing any political officials that are not supporting the views of its people and the greater good. We have to make sure that people in office that are representing us and advocating the increasing on minimum wage, are fully supported. Politicians like Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton have the right idea when it comes to minimum wage. They want to impose laws so that states and federal government are required to increase the minimum wage whenever the cost of living rises (Johnston 1). There has to be an uprise by women, young workers and other low income individuals by having a peaceful protest to the government that the current minimum wage is not acceptable. Creating a petition and have it sent to a government official that advocates the increase of minimum wage can also aid the cause. A petition will have the same results as a protest but with this method it will allow expansion of the idea to different states and different people allowing more coverage and even more individuals to accept the idea of increasing…
