Literary Analysis
Draft due: February Feb 19
Final due: February Feb 21
Write a well-developed literary analysis of “A Wall of Fire Rising,” using textual evidence to support your argument. You should include at least 5 references to the text itself (whether short quotations or paraphrases). Remember that “an effective literary analysis helps readers understand what makes a literary work thought-provoking, revealing or enjoyable” (Johnson-Sheehan and Paine 131). Pay special attention to how the setting, characters and language influence your thoughts about the overall meaning of the short story. Your paper should have an introduction with a strong thesis statement, supporting body paragraphs, and a conclusion, and it should be a minimum of five paragraphs. Each paragraph should be a minimum of 7 sentences. Your paper should be at least two full pages, typed and double-spaced, in 12 pt. Times New Roman font.
The draft does not have to be typed, but it should be a complete draft. If you do not have a draft in class, you will lose 10 points on your final essay.
Please submit the final paper as a hard copy in class on the day it is due and through the dropbox on elearn. I will not grade this essay unless you submit it both ways.
You must come to my office during my office hours (on syllabus) sometime between February 26 and March 6 to discuss your essay with me in person. If you fail to do so, you will lose 10 points off of your final
