The Plan for Parent Communication The following Parent Communication Plan will be focused on fourth grade. Students in the fourth grade are very independent, self-driven, and responsible. In the fourth grade children begin to realize the importance of school. The number of daily homework increases, the expectations also increase, and students are more responsible for their actions. However, students still need assistance with school work on a daily basis in all subject areas. It is extremely important for teachers to constantly communicate with their students parents. Through daily homework, weekly newsletters, e-mails or phone calls. Teachers and parents need to collaborate together at all times. However, students should also be a part of the collaboration. Students should be inform that they have important responsibilities Such as; completing their daily homework assignments with or without their parents support. Parents and teachers should always find a form to communicate whether it’s by e-mails, phone calls, or notes. Epstein developed a framework composed of six types of involvement that help educators and parents create a partnership to support students. Each school develops its own plan and program in order to provided parent communication (Epstein et al.1997). There should be an open-line of communication between teachers and parents. Parents involvement is essential in schools and they should always be apart of all school events. Year round parents should be invited to school functions and be apart of fundraisers. Schools should continue being run by the administrators and have the support of the parents. Parents need to be involved in their children's education but also understand that their children need space. All children need some form of independence.
