Examples Of Epilogue To The Giver
Memory Transmission: Jonas felt anxious. Normally, the light, soft touch of The Giver’s hands on his back was calming, but this time, it felt different. Jonas started to take deeper breaths, trying to relax in the silence of the Annex. He took another deep breath, this time the air was warm and humid. The touch of the Giver’s hands had been replaced by a new touch, below his feet. It was warm, grainy, and soft, unlike anything he had felt before. Sand, Jonas thought as he stared down at it. Around him were trees, shading him from the hot sun. But the trees seemed different, there were criss-cross patterns stretching along the lengthy brown part, the leaves were like a head of green hair on the top of the tree, and there were these brown circles, …show more content…
Jonas stared at the restless waves, as they curled and crashed. The sound calmed him down. He walked out from under the cooling shadow of the palm tree, and into the hot sun. Immediately, he felt a rush of heat. The sand burned against his bare feet, and his mouth was dry. He needed some water. Jonas raced towards the ocean, sand kicking up behind him. As he got closer, the sand began to cool, soothing his scorched feet. Without hesitation, he crouched down and started to gulp the water. He gagged, the water was salty, a nauseating taste. Soon, all the water he had drank was back to where it came from. Miserably, Jonas backed away from the ocean. His body was so hot, it was going to explode. He remembered the soothing feeling of the wet sand on his hot feet. Then he thought of something. He walked back over to the water and began to step in. He began to walk farther into the ocean, waves pushing him back, saying, “No, don’t go any farther.” But he did not listen. The touch of the cool water on his skin soothed him. We were all sucked dry from the sun that day with zero energy left, we scavenged what we could and we still ate better than we could have at any local dinner. The day was still long and was only going to get hotter and longer even as the day came to a close. There was more things to do around the land than there was at any theme park. So as we all sat around and waited for something to do you could tell that everyone was thinking the same thing as sweat poured down all of our faces. The cold spring fed creek was the only thing that was going through my mind and I knew that was the only thing going through anyone else’s. We walked down to the creek as there was no other way that you could reach it, and as we got closer and closer you could hear the light eco of the fifteen foot waterfall coming off of the trees. The only thing I was looking for was the spit of the water flowing up through the large oak and misquote tree branches. You knew when everyone saw the water, you could see the sight of the crystal clear water shining off of everyones eyes and you could tell that there was a sudden sign of relief that came upon everyone after the long walk through the large misquote trees avoiding as many thorns and cactuses as they possibly could, being careful as could be you weren't going to miss all of them. And there was no better feeling than soaking your wounds in that…

A small ripple ran across the surface of the water where he had been. I called out his name, hoping that he had just swam underwater for a second. There wasn't a response. The wave was murky coming towards like a rigid and supreme barrier. It began to coil over, he looked up the wave loomed over him. His father’s words came back to him giving him an urge of determination “a true mariner never deserts a sinking ship.” It heaved itself onto his boat. The boat shredded apart, jagged pieces of timber where floating and he was left sinking. His boat had plunged into the depths of the enigmatic ocean. The salted sea pricked at his delicate eyes and his spectral face white washed. He was crawling for breath kicking his feet neurotically. He managed to clench onto a residue of his boat his naked fingers scratching the plank and splinters dashing up his finger nails. For him time felt suspended. His clothes saturated with water clinging on and sticking onto his skin. He was wrinkling like a prune. He had a vacant expression, solitude was conquering him. He had to overcome this despair as the turbulence of the storm…

It was a good memory, the water splashing, the children laughing, the people eating food at the beach in a small basket called a picnic, but Jonas remembered what the Giver had told him constantly, “The community is the way that it is because all these activities would be dangerous to the members of the community,” and with that phrase ringing in Jonas’ head repeatedly, he rose up to find himself of the bed, in the Annexe, with The Giver’s hands firmly on his…

After several days and nights the desert began to become hotter and we lost track of time. As we were walking along under the stars in dark of the night I tripped over a rock and fell towards the ground with a splash. The cool liquid surrounded my dry skin as a feeling of joy spread throughout my body. “Water!” I shouted back to the others. Smiles spread across the group as they jumped into the pool of water. Everyone drank and ate berries from the surrounding bushes until we could eat no more. As we sat around a fire that James had created the conversation of how much more walking we could take came up.…
