Examples Of Myself In Diversity
A group I include myself in: bilingual. Moving to the United States has opened my eyes to the diversity a single country can have. There are many cultures that I’ve never known of and which has been interesting to learn about. Part of being bilingual is that you are able to communicate and help people who don’t know or speak English. A group I don’t include myself in: not friendly. I’m a quiet, shy person so people tend to assume that I’m not interested in making friends or talking to them. For example, one of my friends told me that before we were friends she thought that I didn’t

Discrimination is most often related to race. However, there are instances where it can be departmental. There have been few times when I felt as though I was being discriminated against, but when I did, it was not a good feeling. Though I am not in a minority, racially, I am in what feels like a minority department within the company that I work. Our hospital and health system has several outlying facilities: rural health clinic, daycare, long-term care, orthopedic surgeon’s office, and general surgeon’s office. I am employed under the rural health clinic department.…

To many in America, I am diversity. I represent a minority group, I am the exotic elephant in the room, and I am who companies include to up their diversity intake. My culture is the outline for my entire life; while it doesn't define me, it has changed and impacted my life is different ways. Diversity is the basis of all communities, and tolerance is a result of educating oneself on this topic. A group may be diverse in nature, but if not tolerant, they are not succeeding in being diverse in action. My life as an Indian-American student in a upper-middle class neighborhood may not seem to give much insight on diversity, but my experience has not been stereotypical. From an early age, my parents surrounded our family with Indians. It was not…

I feel that I can contribute to the overall student body of this college by engaging myself with fellow students. Teaching others what I have learned, as well as having an open mind to learn from others, can help us all. I believe that being a mother, wife, and registered nurse has molded me into the unique individual that I am today. My contributions to society help me to view myself and others like me in a different light. I believe that those who have committed themselves to helping others hold the key to nurturing our youth and elders alike. My career as a nurse began fourteen years ago. I started out as a licensed practical nurse. I enjoyed it immensely, but always felt that I could achieve more. Eleven years later, I graduated from an LPN to RN bridge program. I always knew that I wanted to help others; and everyday holds a different reward in itself. People often question how I am able to deal with illness and death so often. They also question if we, as caregivers, ever get depressed. My answer to them is that if I can make one person more comfortable in their last days, then I have made a difference. Of course there many more rewards to nursing. I truly believe that it takes a kind heart and caring person to commit oneself to a lifetime of helping others. I feel that I am truly blessed and honored to be amongst these. So, in summary; I believe that sharing these thoughts and feelings with others can help me to fit in at this…

If I being truly honest I do not like including myself in a group. I am an Mexican American, and I am very proud of my cultures. Yet, I do identify myself more Mexican. Even though I live in a community where its mostly Hispanic. I like to be in place where its diverse. I enjoy meeting new people and learning from them. I choose Long Beach City College because how diverse it is, yet forty percent of our campus is Hispanic. The fascinating part is I feel a personal with the liberty of freedom of speech. I feel I identify with children that come from Hispanic families. I would be able to communicate with parents who are not bilingual. I believe it is advantage I can speak two languages because I will be able to help others in the community,…
