There are many ways of empowering people in the day centre such as using care values, promoting choices, communication, positive working practices and working in partnership with other people.
Care values
Care values can be used to empower the service users such as showing them respect. This can make them confident because their able to share their own beliefs and opinion respect would allow the service user to express themselves more openly. Care values also be used by providing dignity to the service users to empower them, this can be empowerment due to the service users feeling that what they do is important this makes them aware that they are in control of their life.
Promoting choices Promoting choices to the service users allows them to be in control of what they do. Sometimes the service users do not get given choices; this could be about what time they wake up, time to eat, activities they want to do and more. The main reasons for them sometimes not getting a choice is due to the member of staff does not realise that there are choices available. Choice could be missed out when it is time to eat as cutlery can hold choices such as eating with a fork instead of a spoon. Needs-led assessment, which bases on care planning based on what an individual actually needs rather than following a general form. This allows the service users to do the rest of the things they do not really need for themselves therefore letting them be in control of their life.
