Explain Why I Am Proud To Be A Canadian
I am proud to be a Canadian because of its diversity. Canada is like a mosaic, allowing people coming into Canada to keep their religion and traditions. In addition, there are many unique languages and traditions, making Canada rich in culture and heritage. This is because Canada is multilingual. Additionally, I am proud to be a Canadian because Canada accepts all people. It gives the refugees and immigrants equal rights as everyone else that lives in the country.

Free healthcare is another impressive part of Canada. If you are ill and need to go to the doctor, you don’t have to pay from your pocket. Everyone in Canada must pay taxes and when you do, you are also funding the healthcare system. Once you get to the doctor’s office, all you would be required to show to your doctor is your OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan) card.

Furthermore, Canada is a democracy, meaning only everyone (people that have a Canadian citizenship) can vote for their preferred person as a place in the government. Then, the votes would be counted properly, and the winner would be the person with the most vote. Canada’s political system makes more efforts to address, in a broad sense, the rights of minorities within their borders. Although some groups such as the Inuit still feel underrepresented, Canada still provides substantial aid and protections for every group and makes cultural acceptance an important consideration when passing legislation. In the wake of the recent US elections, I definitely admire the advantages of having representatives that actually consider the rights of all citizens, especially when discussing potential legislation. Considering the rights of minorities during all steps of the legal process allows for the possibility of more inclusive legislation that can address more facets of each problem being addressed. Hopefully,…

While for many years, most immigrants were from European countries, the recent waves of immigration often include immigrants from South Asian, sub-Saharan and middle eastern countries. These recent immigrants do not have the same experience than the French, the Irish or the Italian earlier in the twentieth century. The reason for this is that they have a much different culture. In fact, integration is ‘easier’ in a western country is easier when one is christian and caucasian for instance. However, many recent immigrants are muslims, and are non-caucasian. Seeing diversity portrayed in media encourage people and small and large communities of people to welcome new cultures and to shares theirs passions, religions, symbols, and foods. This is something that in Canada should be shown and demonstrated more frequently TV shows, ads, commercials, and movies. By showing it in media is making a statement that it is good and it is okay to be diverse; it is alright for different cultures to collaborate and share what they like. Unfortunately this isn’t necessarily shown as much as should be in our Western Culture.…
