Long-term reading goal: Become a more efficient reader, learn and use the different strategies described in the reading from this week.…
Although there is much I can’t recall from my early days of reading, there are some momentous flashbacks. When I was beginning elementary school my parents were very eager to introduce me to doing a great deal of reading, they wanted me to enjoy reading for a while and they succeeded. We lived within walking distance of the public library which allowed us to frequently visit the library to read and check out books. I always remembered the vast shelves of books that seemed like they never had an end. In addition to reading at the library we checked books out to bring home to read, this allowed me to read as much as I wanted to. Correspondent to the amount of reading I did, the more I enjoyed it and improved at reading.…
The 1920s was a time of major surprising social changes in the United States. The social changes during this period were reflected in the laws and regulations that were brought into play during this time. Albert Einstein said, ¨Nothing is more destructive of respect for the government and the law of the land than passing laws which cannot be enforced.¨ This quote makes me believe that Prohibition did not succeed and it was a failure to society. I believe this because the ¨noble experiment¨ was undertaken to reduce crime and corruption, alcohol consumption was increased, there was overcrowded prison systems, and lack of public support during this time. The results of these reasons shows that Prohibition was a failure, and the Eighteenth Amendment hindered our society.…
Educating and guiding students to read and become fluent readers is a life changing experience for the students. Increasing literacy skills in students prepares them for academic and professional careers. Educators must reflect on their own teaching practices and implementation of intervention strategies to meet the needs of all children while taking into account of their individual reading readiness: emergent, beginner, and transitional. As educators are implementing strategies and teaching practices, they are creating a literate environment that is conducive to all readers.…

Anthem by Ayn rand is quite interesting to me. Throughout the first ten pages the book reminded me of George Orwell’s book 1984.with both books there is a constant, societies that force all people to be equal and, the main characters need to break out of that society. I feel sorry for Equality 7-2521. He was born different from his brothers and cannot change that and because of it he is inherently the social outcast of his society. His hopes of being a scholar are crushed as he is told to be a street sweeper and he cannot do anything about it except say “the will of our brothers be done (26).the part that has really interested me is how they speak of the unmentionable times “but we must never speak of the times before the great rebirth, [..] only the old ones who whisper about it in the evenings, of the towers which rose to the sky, in those unmentionable times, and the wagons which moved without horses and the lights which burned without flame. But those times were evil.”(19-20). I found this description very mysterious, and I like mysterious. Given the fact that this book is shorter than it appears I don’t think in the end Equality 7-2521 will be alive. What I think will happen is that it will end with him imprisoned like the count of Monte Cristo or something close to that.…
When I was done with school I didn’t think a single thought about reading when I came home . All I could think about was the football match I had later or the video games I was going to play. “If you read 30 minutes a day, instead of playing video games or being with your friends, you would be a much greater writer and your vocabulary will expand”, my dad often said. And I totally agree with him, but those 30 minutes felt like hours to me, and I was just too tempted to do almost anything…
To Start off, I will be telling you a little bit of my background in reading and how I started to read. For as long as I can remember I remember my parents would read children books to me right before bedtime. It was the books that every kid loves being read to like Dr. Suess and Thomas the tank engine. My favorite books however where the books where there was big pictures because kids loves seeing the animation. I had a book where on each page you would press something on the page and the book would talk, which was really neat. I cannot remember at what age but maybe when I got into grade 4 or so, that is when my teachers started showing us how to read. We would read easy books but books with great humour, I really wish I knew what the books we read where but its been just a long time. I can just remember the joy I had as I…
This is a story about how I became the reader, I am today. Starting with the two people I love the most is my parents, then is when every make believe thing is real like the gingerbread man, and now finally is the person who made me want to read all day every day, the person who doesn't want to put a book down, I wanted to be just like Miss.King , but sports, homework, school, and much more so right now I and a 5 because reading takes time and I don't have all the time in the world to read, other thing come first. Now let me tell you about me reading history.…
The total of pages that I have read over the total 8 weeks that we’ve been in school is 1151 pages, the number of pages that I averaged over a weekly reading rate was 143 pages. In my opinion my average weekly reading rate to me is pretty good to me knowing that my books had so many pages. I believe that my reading habits have improved over time from my first book until now. My homework of 2 hours of reading per week has grown a bit since I began reading the book I am on now , a plan of improvement is definitely needed if I want to reach the goal of 25 books before I graduate, My plan is to try harder on finding books that attract my attention.…
Because my childhood was so filled with literature, the fact that reading is such a substantial part of my life is somewhat expected. The reading material I read then has helped me become the person I am today. As young as Second Grade, I had already read the Harry Potter series, and countless other chapter books that had helped shape my childhood. Even though my preferred genre has evolved since then, my avidity for reading has not faltered. Because of my reading, I learned how valuable the skill of, not only being able to read, but being able to comprehend the text you had read is.This skill has assisted me mature intellectually, such as last year. When I was exposed to new reading material for school, I gained the ability to, not only read more advanced books, but to realize the message that the author was portraying in their novel…
My reading journey began in kindergarten. The school I attended for kindergarten passed out books to each student to take out and read with their parent. I would read one sentence of the book aloud and then my mom would read the next sentence. I would be sent home a new book each week and my mom and I would read them before going to bed. These books made me like reading because I didn’t have to read a whole book since my mom and I shared each line. This reading strategy was a good start for my reading journey. My level of reading increased exponentially during middle…
When I was in high school reading became more of a hobby, rather than mandatory thing. I enjoyed when my teachers asked me to read out loud to the class. I also read on my free time. In high school I read “Perfect Chemistry” , “Romeo & Juliet “ and “ The Book Of Hercules”. I hope to read “The Great Gatsby” while I am attending college.…
