Father Damien's View Of Heroism
Heroes aren’t always a person with powers that saves the world from unrealistic things. An inference that can be made about heroes is that they show heroism and unselfishness. This can be seen in the lives of King Kamehameha, Eddie Aikau, and Father Damien.

The first example of how heroes are unselfish and show heroism can be seen in the life of King Kamehameha. One piece of evidence that shows this can be found in Source 1. According to Source 1, “He helped replenish the island of O’ahu by repairing kalo patches and planting more sweet potatoes.” This shows that heroes are unselfish and they show heroism because he is helping his island needs to take care of his people. Another piece of evidence that shows can be found in Source 1. According to Source 1, “ He unified the legal system. He used the products collected in taxes to promote trade with Europe and United

One piece of evidence that shows this can be found in Source 3. According to Source 3,”He spoke the Hawaiian language. Assisted by patients, he built houses constructed a water system, and planted trees. He also organized schools, bands, and choirs. He provided medical care for the living and buried the dead. He expanded St. Philomena Catholic Church.” This shows heroes are unselfish and they show heroism because he is trying his best to give his people “hope” and live rather a place to die from the contagious disease. Another piece of evidence that shows this can be found in Source 3. According to Source 3,”Over the years he had done nothing to separate himself from his people. He dipped his fingers in the poi bowl shared with other patients. He shared his pipe, and he did not always wash his hands after bandaging the open sores.” This shows that heroes are unselfish and they show heroism because he is sharing his personal stuff that helps with his needs and that’s putting his life before his

Heroes are brave. They put their life on the line to save others. An example of this happened on December 3 when state trooper Michael J. Miles saved an unnamed 3 year old boy from his abductor, Michael Ramirez, who had taken him from his home. After Ramirez escaped the police's tail on him, he ran into the North Carolina forest where “Miles used his knowledge of the area to… approach him on foot” (Hero Trooper Saves 3 Year Old After Amber Alert 1). That is bravery. He put his fears aside so he could save a little boy because he knew that by the time people would come to help it could be too late. Without Miles’ bravery, that little boy might not be alive. Bravery, however, is not the only important quality of a hero.…

A hero can make a difference in a small, medium, or large way. Some say that you can’t be a hero until you do a difficult or large task to prove that you are one. The truth is, the world is filled with heroes who became one by one simple task. Like your parents, city workers, or many other citizens. People aren’t doing the good to help themselves, there doing it for the person they are helping. Heroes aren’t heroes because they want to be, but because they choose to be kind and they go out of their way…

    Example Of Heroism Essay

Heroes have three main traits: enough guts to ignore those who have a problem with their goals and the way they are living their life, devotion to their cause, and benevolence towards everyone, no matter what. They do their best to be brave, courageous, and have spirit; in one word, gutsy. Even though many people didn’t support her and called her a witch, Joan of Arc had the bravery and strength to continue fighting for her cause. She used her courage and spirit to ignore negative opinions from the people around her. Heroes are devoted to their cause, and are persistent in trying to reach their goals, especially through hard times. An example is Penelope, wife of Odysseus. He went away to fight in a war, and didn’t come back. “Everyone by now took for granted that he was dead, except Penelope, his wife…the hope that her husband would return was faint, but it never died.” (Mythology, Edith Hamilton.) Penelope waited twenty…

A hero never does heroic actions just so people recognize and praise them. Many heroes are not even recognized for their actions, but that doesn’t stop them from continuing and doing the right things. For example, soldiers who are constantly fighting for our country. Not every single one of them end up on the news, or trend on twitter, but they don’t stop fighting for our country because of that. They know it is the right thing so therefore they will continue doing it, praised or not. As Tom Hanks said, “A hero is somebody who voluntarily walks into the unknown.” Also a hero is not someone who gives up because of one obstacle. A hero is an individual who keeps going even in spite of the immense obstacle. For instance, in the poem, ‘A Man’, the poet describes a soldier who loses his arm while fighting for his country. In the beginning of her poem, she describes the soldier’s physical limitations from losing his arm, yet the soldier speaks of compensating for his physical disability with enthusiasm, “He set himself to do everything with twice as much enthusiasm. And where the arm had been torn away a wing grew” (Line 15). The first part dwells on the thought he can only do half of everything, such as a harvest, either tune or play an accompaniment on a piano, banging on a door, and holding his…

This is why selflessness is another important factor in what it means to be a hero. A hero takes action for the purpose of helping others, without hidden motives or personal agendas. Heroes are willing to forget about their own needs when faced with the needs of others. One such example of selflessness is found in the story of Victoria Soto. The schoolteacher was only 27 years old when she gave her life trying to shield her young students during the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in Connecticut. This action shows selflessness in its most pure form, completely abandoning concern for oneself in the process of helping, or in this case saving, others. While sacrificing ones life to save another’s is an extreme example of this, it can also be found in the actions of the everyday heroes that surround us. A working single mother is an example of a selfless hero that we are surrounded by in our day-to-day life. While she isn’t literally giving her life for anyone, a single mother who has to work long hours and sacrifice sleep and other wants to provide for her children is displaying selflessness and most certainly establishing herself as a hero to her children and those around her. “A hero is somebody who is selfless, who is generous in spirit, who just tries to give back as much as possible and help people. A hero to me is someone who saves people and who really deeply cares.” – Debi…
