Fault In Our Stars Compare And Contrast
Love Shall Never Truly Perish Love is something that cannot perish, not even in death. It is everlasting; no matter who someone is, they are always loved by at least one person in their lifetime. Love can overcome many obstacles, even ones that seem nearly impossible to defeat. In Fault in Our Stars by John Green, cancer affects the love between Augustus Waters and Hazel Lancaster and their actions towards each other. Hazel and Augustus are both very unique and special in their own ways. Augustus is an intelligent and strong hearted amputee, who is very confident in who he is and loves his share of video games, but fails to win because he tries to save everyone’s life. Augustus is a one of a kind guy; he is unlike anyone else. He never fails …show more content…
Hazel did not truly understand how she was to people until she admits to herself, “ And now that I loved a grenade did I understand the foolishness of trying to save others from my own impending fragmentation: I couldn't unlove Augustus Waters. And I didn't want to” (Green 214). Even though loving Gus would cause her great pain she loved him anyways. He was the one and only love of her life. Hazel gave a moving speech at Gus’s private “prefuneral”, “Gus my love, I cannot tell you how thankful I am for our little infinity. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. You gave me a forever within the numbered days, and I am grateful” (260). A girl that was scared to fall in love, fell in love with her perfect guy. He gave her a whole new view of the world, something she will cherish until the end of her days. She states, “My name is Hazel. Augustus Waters was the great star-crossed love of my life” (259). Even though Gus has now perished he will live on forever in Hazel’s heart. Loving him and losing was better than to not have been able to love him at all. Augustus changed Hazel’s world just by being a part of her life. Love is a powerful force that can overcome the most improbable odds. Not even death can destroy true love. Augustus and Hazel have one of the most intense kind of love that there is. They overcame so much just to be together. Hazel was not searching for a guy, let alone love, but she put herself out there and discovered what it is to have someone that loves her unconditionally.
