While I entered this course with a fair degree of background knowledge on human trafficking, I still learned a great deal more about the scholarly discourse, controversies, and policy implications through my professor, guest speakers, and fellow classmates. Although the SAFE Center was not the most communicative or responsive client, each team still managed to receive any desired information in order to efficiently address the client’s needs. Regrettably, my team experience presented the biggest challenges in the class for me, but I endeavor to learn from those challenges in an effort to prevent future teamwork issues.

Furthermore, I, personally, plan to approach all future group projects differently by establishing ground rules from the start, such as: (1) everyone is expected to attend all classes and scheduled group meetings, (2) if a team member is unable to attend due to an emergency, she will notify her group, (3) all email communications should receive timely replies, (4) any deadlines we set for ourselves should be obeyed as any other formal class deadline would be, and (5) if anyone has any issues with completing her work, she should discuss with her team immediately. While these ground rules seem obvious to many, they may not be quite as intuitive to others. I hope that these predetermined expectations help guide my future groups by fostering better communication and building the foundations of a working relationship on trust.
Conclusion
Overall, I am very appreciative of the School of Public Policy for offering a section dedicated to the topic of human trafficking. Furthermore, while I’m sure that mentions of human rights violations are discussed in many international development courses, I enjoyed the spotlight given to such violations in this course. Finally, although my team experience, by no means, ran smoothly, I hope to carry the lessons I learned from the experience so that they positively impact any future
