The first strategy I would use to determine if an employee has the specific skills needed to fill a position would be a job analysis which is the process of getting detailed information about the job. This would help me to determine what would be needed in the position in order for the job to be done as effective as possible. Once this task has been completed and I believed that I had an adequate fit for the position I would then want to test their skill level. Through questionnaire and skills testing I could better ensure they would be the proper fit.

Of the following functional areas of human resources, I would highly consider a career in training and development. Being an administrator at my current place of employment I get to touch on some of the aspects that are important in this area. For instance, upon hiring of an employee I already orient them to the office as well as the position they will be filling; answering any questions they may have about the company. I also participate in skills training, ensuring that if I myself am not the person training then they are partnered with a person that is knowledgeable in that area to help the new employee become more proficient.
