The story starts off with the main characters, Quinn, Russ, Maggie and Blake being introduced. Russ is the tough guy, Maggie is the pretty girl dating Russ, Quinn is the bad boy, and Blake is the one who seems to have it all together. When they arrive at a town theme park His friends try to encourage him to ride the Kamikaze, but he is too afraid. He doesn’t want his friends to judge him so he gets on anyways Blake talks to a mysterious pretty girl named Cassandra at a ball toss game. He wins a ticket to another sketchy amusement park that is only open at night. After the game Blake finds his brother Quinn climbing a roller coaster to get his hat back and Blake saves him. After they return their mom announces she is getting married and this upsets Quinn so he runs off.

Maggie character faces some personal problems in these pages. She is portrayed as really confident and strong character in the beginning of the book, but she is exposed for being insecure when she enters the house of mirrors and it changes her physical form. She worries about being fat and ugly and she is consumed by the ride. The next ride is the Kamikaze which is based off planes and Blake is triggered because of the similarities to the roller coaster he rode in the normal theme park. Even though everyone around Blake at this point is defeated, he is determined to keep going to somehow save
