Have you ever thought about the way people cheat in games? The novel, Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card, is about a third child that goes to Battle School to learn how to stop the aliens from invading his world. Orson Scott Card demonstrates how the games were used as a way to manipulate the kids and soldiers. The ways he accomplishes this is by the adults changing the rules of the battle room games, and when the adults were giving the kids and soldiers promotions to higher rankings. Now let’s talk about the games that they played while at battle school.
The games that they played at battle school are a null-gravity laser tag game and a mind game on a tablet. One of those that we are going to talk about in this paragraph is the null-gravity …show more content…
In some eyes it’s basically like a professional sport. An example of that you could say would be the professional sport called the National Football League commonly known as the NFL. With the teams in the NFL having a head coach to command the team just like a commander that was in the book. The head coach will also be having assistant coaches to help coach with his team. The book has a commander that has toon leaders in every army, just like the NFL with the head coaching and the assistant coaches. You could also say that the adults like Colonel Graff and Major Anderson were apart of the football connection too. Because Major Anderson could be like the General Manager in football. A General Manager in football runs your team with drafting players, signing players, and has a connection with the head coach like Major Anderson does with all the commanders. Colonel Graff is like an Owner of an NFL team. An Owner of an NFL team basically is the highest guy or gal of that team and controls everything with the team. The only one higher is the NFL Commissioner that oversees all the NFL teams and owners. Colonel Graff is like an owner because he runs everything in the Battle School and tells them all what to do, but he does have to listen to higher people like the owner does with the Commissioner. That is how the chains of command go in the book in relation to the NFL. Now let’s talk about the other game they played that was a mind …show more content…
And that's why they pushed him so hard and also why they changed the battle room rules constantly when they made Ender a commander of the Dragon Army. Some examples of this was when they gave Ender, his army that was just all full of mostly launchies and no one was even older than him in his own army. Also when a new team was built they got 3 months to prepare for battle and get chemistry with their toons and their formations there going to run. But Ender only got three and a half weeks with his army to prepare for battle and that was one way they changed it for Ender to make it harder on him. They also changed it from them having battles every 2 weeks to Enders team having a battle almost every day. And Major Anderson even says it himself, while him and Graff are talking about Ender on him advancing into battle with other armies. Major Anderson says “‘I thought we’d give him two years as commander. We usually give them a battle every two weeks, starting after three months”’ (Card 173). And that’s important because it shows that the games were manipulated towards the kids and on how to make them successful. Also, it shows the tough schedule that Ender and his army would be facing in the future. You could also say that that was a way of Card showing some foreshadowing ahead in the book. Also one time in the book Ender had 2 battles
