Book: Genesis Genesis is the first book of the Old Testament of The Bible There are many different interpretations of the literary genre of the book of Genesis, but Christians see it as a historical narrative. The author of the book of Genesis is unknown, but there are some who believe it was written by Moses himself. The date of when Genesis was written is not known either, but many believe it was between 1440 B.C to 1400 B.C. This is believed to be true because this was during the time when Moses left the Israelites out of Egypt and his death (Got Questions?org , 2016). The book of Genesis is an extremely important book in the Bible. Genesis’s purpose is to lay the foundation for the rest of the Bible. Genesis 5:28-29 says “When Lamech has lived 182 years, he fathered a son and called his name Noah, saying, “out of the ground the Lord has cursed, this one shall bring us relief from our work and from the painful toil of our hands.” This tells us Noah’s father’s name was Lamech. The bible does not say where Noah was actually born, or the name of his mother. Genesis 9:29 says “Noah lived for 950 years.” There is a major gap in the timeline of Noah especially in his younger years. When Noah was 502 he became a the father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth, which can be found in Genesis 5:32 There is much debate on the actual age of Noah when each son was born, but Genesis 5:32 states he was 502.
