Got Milk
"Got Milk?"

This advertisement was found in the October issue of Cosmopolitan. "Got Milk" advertisements are seen in all types of magazines from sports to beauty, featuring many different kinds of celebrities selling their product. The product being sold in "Got Milk" advertisements is, of course, milk. They are trying to reinforce that the calcium in milk keeps bones strong and helps prevent osteoporosis. In this advertisement for milk irony is it's secret weapon to get the point across. There is a green eyed blonde with a low cut "little black dress" caressing her flawless body with her arm around a martini glass filled with milk. She is seductively leaning against a glass covered wooden bar with a luring gleam in her eyes. Her and the milk are the main focus of this advertisement. In the background is faded liquor and wine bottles. While looking at her you cannot take your eyes off of her milk mustache and the milk martini glass that got to touch her full pink lips. The irony of this advertisement is that out of all the handsome tall liquor bottles, she chose the thin lean martini with milk in it. The difference between her night black dress and the pure white milk contrasts like night and day. Good and bad shows their faces at the bar. The sex appeal of this woman in a bar full of alcohol drinking milk makes you question what the purpose of this add is. The positioning, proportions, and color in this ad portray the use of the goodness/purity of white milk positioned directly by the dark

Gregory 2 seductive woman and liquor bottles, which make you question what is good and bad for yourself.
The proportions of the liquor bottles and the martini milk glass in this advertisement show the sizes, or importance of these objects. The liquor bottles, being small and in the back of the advertisement show that they are not as important to the viewer as the milk, which is larger and in the front. Of course it would be this way because the whole

Yogurt is a good food to explain to women how their figure would look if they were to eat healthy foods like yogurt. As shown in the ad, they are advertising a Diet Nestle Yogurt. This ad shows that the woman, on the ad, can be a white woman’s idol. Women may want to get into a dress, like the one the woman is showing off, or even show off their bellies again because before they could not. Women want to look like these people because they are pretty, and skinny. As said before, based on what Bordo explains, the girl has a good attitude toward the food which gains people’s attention toward the specific yogurt. This can result in women beginning a diet or going out and starting something different, such as working out. Bordo also says, “You never see ads about not focusing on our size or shape because of your natural beauty. But you see more is the ideal image of beauty and slenderness (page 139).” This is an example of one of those ads that get people’s attention to start something new. Plato makes a good point about how woman stay in their shackles just to be skinny and be what society wants them to look like. When one leaves the shackles he or she goes out, like a person is giving them self up to the world and showing the world who they really are. Being skinny and slender is what many women want to look like. Some women start to think that they want to have an ideal weight or become slim which will result in others noticing that they can be a accepted as a part of…

Pop-tarts Pastry Swirls by Kellogg's. What is it? Strawberry, new look? Since when did people start to care how their food looks? It' is going to end up in the toilet, I am sorry for being that open. I think this advertisement I s a counterexample of the usual ads that Bordo describes in her essay. Look at the woman! She's definitely not a model. Honestly, when I took a look at this ad, I got scared. My goodness: horribly wrinkly old lady with blue hair! Well of course there are a lot of older people out in our world, but I guess we are not so used to see them as advertisers. Let's get back to the describing. This is a progress. A couple years ago our magazines or TV's didn't even have people of older age advertising anything. There always were gorgeous models, long lags, pretty faces, muscled bodies, etc. Now we can see anything. I think we all know that women are very carrying people. They care a lot about their children, husbands, friends, and themselves at the last moment. Susan Bordo describes women as those, "who are almost never shown being fed by others." (162). But in this ad, I can tell that lady thinks about herself a lot, she's even getting her hair-cut without a hurry to go home and feed the "others." She's enjoys listening to her hair-stylist talking about the ways she would look better, smiling and most likely thinking about pop-tarts, for which she even can get money-back. Older classic lady has bright blue hair,…

“Got Milk?” If you are familiar with this ad, in particular, you have experienced prosperity, in advertisements, firsthand. The technique used in this advertisement is clearly an attention-getter. This big-busted blond is hard to miss and is definitely successful with the intended goal. It is easy to assume this ad specifically targets men with the over-indulged woman as the main focus, but subliminally also targets women with appearance and body image pressure. This advertisement uses the provocative imagery of an unnaturally large-chested woman to represent the societal norms where finding something genuine is uncommon, the way the fries are portrayed, giving an insight to social reality, its construction, and ideology.…

The tone used to convey the message is a very serious one, as made evident by the stern expression on the male modeling for the picture, as well as the lack of color. The image does not ask any questions, instead choosing to instill its message with facts and a command, relying on the viewer to both use their logic to think about how their actions could impact others, and to listen to the advice given by the ad which comes from a trusted source. Through this analysis, one can gather that the advertisers are using logos and ethos to appeal to the viewer. When all this is considered, the message given through the straight, black and white font has a deeper impact,…

They created a witty slogan that lures you in and then combined it with the bold, black typeface that is centered on a plain white background. This slogan has reached out to all walks of life: no matter their age, race or their economic status. How can two words attract so much fanfare? The answer can be found in the simplicity with which this marketing campaign began. This style of advertising leaves you, the consumer, asking yourself “do I have milk?” The minimalism of this ad has since evolved to include various celebrities, like Cindy Crawford, athletes such as Charles Barkley, and cartoon characters like Garfield sporting a milk mustache, holding a glass of milk, employing the slogan “got milk?” Most include a brief message about the values and benefits of drinking milk as opposed to sodas or sports drinks. Along with printed ads found in magazines, newspaper and on billboards the “got milk?” campaign also uses television ads to broadcast their message.…

Paul Masson puts the reflection from the bottle on the black glass it sits on to show the golden drink overcoming the darkness. They use a straightforward camera angle maybe a little lower than straightforward but not off by much.In spite of the fact that no individuals appear in the commercial, the ad makes the liquor seem as though it is tasteful and costly and at the base of ad instead of stating "drink responsibly" it says "relax responsibly".It also states that it aged for four years with a blend of foreign cognac and brandy. In the magazine Woman’s Day they put an ad that is family oriented. There is a mother and daughter and they are holding a happy meal and looking happy. The daughter has dark hair and it’s in pigtails with a red ponytail. She is wearing a strip shirt with a red trim with blue jeans, with a necklace that’s yellow and red and a couple bracelets that are red. The mother has dark hair, it’s curly. She is wearing a white shirt that has red flowers and a green cardigan with blue jeans and silver earrings. There is a white background with black text that tells you what buying a Happy Meal from McDonalds will do and what it goes to. The ad looks naturally lit, not to bright and not to dark. The economy is based on consumption and advertising is an indispensable motivator that persuades people to consume. Advertising is one of the biggest tools companies use to sell a product. Today if a product is not actively marketing, publicizing, or advertising itself the product will fail. It is essential for an advertisement to use rhetorical appeals to grab the viewer’s attention. Advertising can be so good that it can sell things to people using a picture alone. It is all in the eye of the beholder. So when I was flipping through the pages of Cosmopolitan magazine I stumble across an ad for ZzzQuil an - over - the counter sleeping aid. It was towards the middle of the magazine and it popped out like a huge billboard. The ad captures attention because the picture of the women sleeping looks so comfortable and makes peaceful sleep desirable and attainable. The ad shows a woman in her bedroom with her striped bedding sleeping in what appears to be a very deep sleep. She is lying face down, eyes shut, with mouth wide open in her bed with her curly hair pressed against the pillow and her arm dangling off the side of the bed. She is sleeping in her bed with a big caption saying “Because sleep is a beautiful thing” (“ZzzQuil”). The ad has amazing appeal and is a great attention grabber. The target audience is clear and defined and all three appeals are used well. The ZzzQuil advertisement is targeting women and they are using all three rhetorical appeals ethos, pathos, and logos to sell this product.…

On the right side, it is a question written in large font with a small text and an image of a crib below it. The question is: “Not really the way you pictured your first crib, huh?” The crib has a simple design. The advertisement is basically black and white with a touch of a hot pink color. This color only appears in the name of the organization, which is at the bottom of the portrait, and parts of the question.…

The first thing that grabs my attention with this advertisement is an example of “ethos” because they used a well-known figure, Katy Perry, to promote their product. When you see celebrities that are promoting brands it makes people think “If this product is good enough for them, it is good enough for me.” I feel this mentality occurs more frequently when a celebrity is promoting make up and skin care products. With celebrities having money, they could buy the best brands out there, so when you see them promoting a product that is in a better appeal for many people (ex. Drug store brands) it can sway someone’s opinion.…

Milk is refreshing, muscle building, and nutritious. “Got milk?” uses this advertisement to get this point across. It consists of Taylor Swift, whose portrait is in the center of the ad, flirtingly leaning on her dark red guitar lined with a light tan rim. Her smooth pale face is slightly tilted to the right as she is seductively gazing into the camera with her starry brown eyes. She has a gentle, small, pearly white smile, which is adorned with the white stain of milk. She is wearing large hoop earrings, one of which is covered by her slight hand, leaning on her graceful neck, and a silk bracelet. Both are jewel studded and colored light brown to compliment her blondish tan spaghetti strap dress that matches her flowing slightly curly golden hair. In the…

Advertisements have become a big part of our daily life, and we see them wherever we go from walking in the city or to driving on the highway. Some of these advertisements put a spin on something old such as an image or phrase, and it will catch peoples eyes. This is just what Guinness did with one of their beer ads that reads “Enjoy responsibly. Phones down, please.” The layout and color of the phones on the bar counter are put in that spot to make a glass shape, The company shows all three different appeals mostly trying to persuade buyers. Guinness has made an ad that puts a twist on everyday objects and phrases, uses colors of phones to create an image, and uses appeals to persuade people into getting a stout.…
