After the end of the Civil War, slavery was finally abolished by the Thirteenth Amendment but had left the South in complete ruins, and with four million newly freed slaves that were homeless, jobless, and illiterate. Reconstruction was then introduced to reunite the South with the Union and assist the newly freed slaves with adjusting to a new society while also protecting them like the citizens they had become. The Reconstruction had successfully rebuilt the damaged cities and transportation of the South, but failed to do anything about the racial injustice that was presenting itself, the crippling economy, and the lack of political power in the South.…
Ray Bradbury’s “The Sound of Thunder” and Gloria Skurzynski’s “Nethergrave” are both good science fiction stories. These stories are both about scientific technology changing the life of a certain person, although there are a few different themes in these stories. In, “The Sound of Thunder,” Eckells has a rude awakening when he realizes that he will be facing harsh consequences due to the fact that he didn’t obey the few rules that were given at the beginning of his journey. In “Nethergrave,” Jeremy chooses to revolve his life around the virtual world, rather than the real world where he is constantly bullied and usually feeling embarrassed, abandoned and sometimes hurt. However, both of these characters are rather similar, as they are both being selfish in an unselfish way without realizing that they are in fact being selfish. Both of these stories revolve around the effect certain choices have on others’ future and even your own future.…

I believe that my strongest position for ASB would be Sports commissioner due to me being an athlete at GFHS. Other positions I would like to run for would be Spirit commissioner and At Large commissioner. I believe that being Sports commissioner is a excellent position for me because I am part of both the Godinez Cross country and Track Varsity programs, both of which I have excelled in since I was a freshmen. Showing dedication and hard work on a sport can demonstrate my will power to perform at my best when I am placed with a task at hand. Characteristics that are needed on the position of sports which need lots of hard work and dedication to ensure that an athletic events receives as much support by the students of Godinez. I believe it is very important to have a background in sports in order to be a sports commissioner, since the main objective is to provide support at the sport games of GFHS.…

July 1993, Lexington, Kentucky. A woman gives birth to a beautiful baby girl with seven holes in her heart; thus began 19 years of visits to an esteemed cardiologist. Extremely worried, her parents inquired regarding their daughter's future, alleviating their worries, the doctor's advice to them was to be diligent and "treat her as you would a normal child." Knowing I have been different did not stop me from participating fully in life, especially during my childhood. In December 2012, we received the wonderful news that the final hole had closed. The odds were in my favor since I have been lucky to have never needed surgery, nor required hospital care from a critical injury. I believe that there is a reason I exist on this earth; and my blueprint…

Introduction Admission to graduate school is highly competitive. Writing an essay, or personal statement, is often the most difficult part of the application process. Requirements vary widely, with some programs requesting only one or two paragraphs about why you want to pursue graduate study, and others requiring five or six separate essays in which you are expected to write at length about your motivation for graduate study, your strengths and weaknesses, your greatest achievements, and solutions to hypothetical problems. Business schools are notorious for requiring several timeconsuming essays. This handout is designed to provide some general guidance on how to write a successful essay. Essay Checklist: Start early enough to allow for several rewritings. Carefully review the instructions and prepare an outline of what you are to include. Write concisely. Demonstrate your ability to think and express ideas clearly. Articulate your motivation and capacity to succeed, and why you and this program are a good match. Use first person (“I”) and active voice. This essay is about you. Be unique and creative while still writing in a scholarly fashion. Keep the length to one or two pages.…
I have experience being in leader in a few main aspects of my life; through community service, FFA, and at my job. Some of the valuable leaderships traits that I obtained and strengthened are: being a good team member, communication skills, solving conflicts, and being opened minded to new ideas and thoughts. Even though I have gained a lot, I still have more things to learn to become a better leader such as being more assertive, being more disciplined, becoming a better public speaker, and learn how to be realistic and not too optimistic.…

During my college level education, I have been very intrigued by the field of science. Specifically, the subject which interests me the most is microscopic molecules and organisms. The class that I believe sparked my interest was my second semester of general biology at Paradise Valley Community College. During this class, I was introduced to the intricate details of cells and the idea that microscopic organisms outnumber all other living things on Earth. This class also provided me with information about viruses, which quickly became most interesting topic for me.…
