In preparation for my interview I created a list of questions and talking points I wished to ask David:
• Basics of the organization o How did you hear about the organization o Motivation for joining o Recruitment
• Your role o How did you come by your current role o What does it entail o Interactions with other members
• Future direction of chapter
• “Tone” of the group o Any unspoken motivation o Conflict
How is conflict resolved?
Is conflict normal? Does it elevate?
• How does the Denver chapter fit into the organization as a whole? o Does the national chapter push projects to local chapters? o Are there opportunities to work with other regional chapters?
After attending the Authority, Power and Justice: Leadership for Change workshop I decided to take a different approach for my interview and my portion of the project. Instead of focusing on the specific duties of members and the projects the organization is working on I decided to focus on group relations and how the local chapter was created, works with one another, and fits in with the national chapter.
David found himself wanting more out of his work and he was introduced to TechAmerica which at the time was a much smaller organization and there was not a formal Denver chapter. After some exposure to the national organization David officially began the Denver chapter and began by trying to recruit new members. He found 3 members, one of which was a friend, and they took the chapter off of the
