Criminals are going to get and use guns illegally whether they are available to law-abiding citizens or not. No matter how many weapons the government tries to take away they are still going to be on the street. Gun control laws will not stop violence. Even if all the guns were banned and did away with, if a criminal wanted to commit a mass crime he will find a new weapon of choice to carry out the act. People have seen over time that more laws do not stop violence from occurring. There is no way to stop mass violence. Criminals will commit violence or obtain a gun whether or not laws are stricter. Every year, more than two thousand people die in the United States from gun related injuries (Hartigan & Lammas, 2002). When a crime is committed it seems the weapon is always the blame. Lots of these gun related injuries come from misuse in guns by minors. Another big factor that causes guns to be the victim is the people that aren’t eligible to have a firearm. Although when a weapon is used to help a bad situation it usually goes unrewarded. In many cases guns are used to stop violence or crimes before they can be fully carried out. It has been found that countries with the most gun control have the higher crime rates. California has some of the strictest gun laws in the United States, and also has one of the highest crime rates. Up to 1981, Britain had one of the lowest crime rates involving guns in the world, but that year they started gun control. Gun control limited the access almost completely to handguns, and assault weapons. From 1981 to 1992 their crime progressed to almost 200 percent. Switzerland has one of the lowest crime rates in Europe, and Switzerland has laws that make every man age eighteen to fifty-six own an assault rifle. Men that age, are forced to serve in the military. The Swiss government makes them keep a rifle at home so they will practice with it and know how to use it. Their owning assault rifles is what keeps the crime rate low. The statistics show that gun control won’t help stop violence or crime but in fact with more control the rates increase. Chicago is the most violent city in America as of right now but it is also the city that has the most gun laws. People tend to blame violence and crimes on certain ethnicities. Houston’s population is very similar to what Chicago’s one is. Although their crime rate and violence is nowhere near as high as Chicago. Being so Houston doesn’t have all the gun laws that Chicago has. So statistics again are showing that gun laws are not the way to end
