By arming teachers or the staff that helps to support schools will only increase the level of liability in schools. Kenneth S. Trump, President of National School Safety and Security Services said "School districts considering arming teachers and school staff with guns would take on significant responsibility and potential liabilities that I firmly believe are beyond the expertise, knowledge-base, experience, and professional capabilities of most school boards and administrators," it is short-sighted for those supporting the idea to believe that educators who enter a profession to teach and serve a supportive, nurturing role with children could abruptly kick into the mindset to kill someone in a second's notice. Police and military personal train their entire career for these kind of situations. They are trained and placed into situations that require them to be in the mindset that they may have to take a life. This is the opposite of the caring role of a teacher.…

In the next three paragraphs I will be giving a brief summery on an article in the New York Times on the topic of, “A Missouri School Trains Its Teachers to Carry Guns, and Most Parents Approve” written by John Eligon. The writer goes on by expressing the feelings of the parents of students attending the school in broad detail ranging from the many supporters to those few that disagree on the topic in question. The writer brings forth a wide array of opinions like that of a women who has grandchildren attending the school “Sooo very glad to hear this,” she posted on the Facebook page of The Quill, adding, “All schools in America should do this.” As well as another mother Sherri Roy, who has four children at the school, said in an interview that she “was really pleased” that some staff members were armed.…
Teachers in 18 states are now carrying guns in school! After a recent study in the news that left many people questioning about, whether teachers should carry guns at school or not. My opinion is that they should not bring guns to school because it could accidentally go off. If this occurred it could affect a child's learning long term and their home life. This could also attract teachers for the wrong reason.…
Children at Sandy Hook Elementary School were helpless when Adam Lanza walked in with three guns and shot twenty kids and six adults. As a result for not letting teachers carry some type of weapon, teachers and student are getting shot. The only Thing that students have for defense is any object that is in that room, but that doesn't compare to a gun.…
Picture a class of twenty elementary students hidden under desks around the classroom, and the teacher is begging the children to stop sobbing. Down the hall the sound of gunshots ring out the sounds of people screaming and begging for help can be heard. The shooter is moving closer and closer to the area and all the innocent soon to be victims are defenseless. There is nothing in that classroom that is going to stop what is about to happen. Now imagine a teacher with a handgun that could at least scare off the shooter, or deter them from advancing into the room. Many people frown upon teachers being able to carry a handgun on school grounds, but if they only knew that the thing they frown upon could possibly be saving their kids life. It makes perfect sense that teachers should be able to carry a handgun if and only if they go through the proper training and tests.…
Jamie O’Meara believes that gun education in our schools curricula would benefit students by giving them a better understanding of the capability of firearms. In his thesis he tells a story of his first experience wielding and shooting a gun and how it made him feel afterwards, bored. O’Meara is trying to get the point across that once students are taught properly and have used a gun in a safe environment they would lose their curiosity about guns. This would better prepare students if there ever came a time when they would believe they would have to use one sometime in their future.…
Will having students carrying handguns on campus actually make students feel safer? Texas Senate recently passed a bill that all students at least 21 years of age with a license to carry concealed handguns will be allowed to carry their weapons on college and university campuses. Legislation allowing handguns on campus violates the sense of protection students feel when at school, leaving many questioning civility. In April of 2007, Virginia Tech experienced one of the deadliest shooting In U.S history by a student, leaving 20 people injured and 32 slain.…
In recent years, there have been many school shootings. Students and faculty deserve the right to carry a firearm to protect themselves. There have been many occasions when the campus police were not able to protect students and faculty. The second amendment gives the right for Americans to bear arms. However, firearms should not be allowed on college campuses because people will feel unsafe, some individuals do not know how to use a gun, and officers will become confused.…
After various shootings in schools and colleges, gun control laws have been a debate all over the country and all over the news. However, many state legislatures have already decided to obligate colleges and universities to allow “concealed carry”. While on one side laws are being passed to keep guns away from the public, on the other side, guns are being permitted in college campuses. Allowing people to carry guns in college campuses is not the way to keep students, faculty, and staff safe, because the students will have to face additional risks, a healthy learning environment is at stake, and citizens allowed a conceal carry permit aren’t always righteous.…

Young kids don’t have the understanding that a gun can potentially kill or seriously injure someone. A great amount of kids involved in tragic accidents are too young. Most parents think they’re old enough to keep a gun around the house and believe they’re responsible enough to be given one, but they’re not. According to the Journal Gazette newspaper, the younger, the more curious a child is about guns. So, the more time and effort it will take to bring him or her to the point of understanding why it is so important not to handle guns without adult guidance. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Nearly 800 children under 14 years old were killed in gun accidents from 1999 to…
