According to law 196, “if a man knocks out the eye of his equal, his eye shall get knocked out”, this law supports my statement because of the fact that he knocked the eye out of his equal he gets an equal punishment so it’s fair. According to law 215, “if a surgeon operates on a free man with a bronze lancet and saves him he shall get 10 shekels of gold” this law also supports my statement because the surgeon gets paid for doing a good job so this law is fair. Additionally, law 196 was made so that the man would have a fair punishment, law 215 was made so surgeons would get fair rewards for doing a good job.
Therefore, these laws have proven that Hammurabi’s laws were fair. To sum it up Hammurabi created both fair and unfair laws. Some of Hammurabi’s laws were fair and some were unfair. I have proven this by stating both the fair and unfair laws. Hammurabi wanted to create these laws because he wanted to protect the weak, they were called Hammurabi’s code. Many people thought these laws were very important because Hammurabi said that Shamash himself told him to create these laws. Unfortunately for him, we don’t believe in those laws
