Hangover By Jennifer Posley Summary
The story I choose is Hangover by Jennifer Pashley because the title is really strange and funny it motivate me to read.

Writer is defining some very difficult times of various people of different situations and comparing that to hangovers.

Like an ageing school teacher who is divorced and her life is felt like same every day. She is always tired and smoking mostly.

Like a student who have an abusing mother and going school is very painful and unhealthy.

Like travelling with a bus filling throat with unbearable smoke and writer is also comparing himself with a dog which is no longer active and afraid of going out because of the heavy thunder and lightning.

Like an employee who always feel under the weather and does not perform well.

In the essay “Hookups Starve the Soul” by Laura Vanderkam, we are given “insight” into college life and what the students may do with their free time. At first glance it may seem that Vanderkam is writing her essay and directing it towards students, but she is in fact directing it towards the parents and it seems that the audience is a hostile one too. Vanderkam tries to explain to the parents what is possibly and probably going on that they may not know about, and that it all falls on the parents, that it is their own fault. Her thesis being; “Some blame the sexual revolution. Some blame co-ed dorms and alcohol abuse. I blame something else.” Throughout Vanderkam’s essay she uses a logical argument, which is somewhat reasonable with supporting evidence. She also tries to establish credibility in her paper, and unfortunately her essay is saturated with logical fallacies.…

Most marriages are formed when two people love each other and share the same aspirations in life. Once couples are married their views begin to change. They realize that marriage is hard and after having kids it’s even harder. Hope Edelman, in her essay “The Myth of Co-Parenting: How It Was Supposed to be. How It Was,” feels frustrated with her husband because of his lack of participation in their marriage. On the other hand, Eric Bartels in his essay “My Problem with Her Anger,” is frustrated with his wife because she is angry with him all the time. Though these essays address marriage from both a male and female perspective, they both discuss idealistic views of marriage, lack of communication, blame, and how to fix their problem.…

The story I chose was “Women Hollering Creek” by Sandra Cisneros which tells a story of Cleofilas, a woman who tries to emulate the life she sees on television and on soap operas. She leaves her home in Mexico and marries a man who takes her to Texas. He works a low paying job and beats and cheats on her, even when she giving birth to their children. Cleofilas, comes to see this is not the life she wants to live. She is living isolated from her family with no friends or community to help her when she needs it the most. She comes to see that the soap operas she has grown to watch throughout her life, our actual lies and that life does not imitate art. She finally comes to conclusion that she must leave her husband because of the way he treats her and she longs to be back in Mexico with her father and family. She gets help from some kindly strangers who help her escape her abusive husband. She seems to marvel at one of the strangers that helps her, Felice, who drives a pickup truck that she pays for herself. She sees in Felice, what she wants, to have life of her own that is not dependent on a man. T…

In Charles Dickens', Tale of Two Cities, the author repeatedly foreshadows the impending revolution. In Chapter Five of Book One, Dickens includes the breaking of a wine cask to show a large, impoverished crowd gathered in a united cause. Later, we find find Madame Defarge symbolically knitting, what we come to find out to be, the death warrants of the St. Evremonde family. Also, after Marquis is murdered for killing the small child with his horses, we come to see the theme of revenge that will become all too common. The author uses vivid foreshadowing to paint a picture of civil unrest among the common people that will come to lead to the French Revolution.…

For this week, I have chosen ‘Hangovers’ which wrote by Jennifer Pashley, and My choice was random. In this short story, the writer described the vision and sensations at different moments of hangovers in different words. Pashley described many moments of hangovers at the home, at the school, at the college, and at the hospital. She used simple words to share her feelings with the readers. Actually, I liked the writer's descriptive style "That taste like strawberry milkshakes, fake and pink.…

On the other hand, for civilians, having criminals pay for their crimes is the greatest reward. But not because man is now a criminal, man can no longer change for the better. “Men are being sent to prison for punishment, not to punish them.” (C Sulivan, 2009), as they re-enter society, they face countless of struggles that their title of being ex-convicts carry.…
