RURAL INDIA – AN EMERGING POWERHOUSE

RURAL INDIA – AN EMERGING POWERHOUSE
Section One: Introduction
It is often said that there are two Indias – Bharat which exists in the villages and India which thrives in the urban areas. If our country has to have real progress and make its mark on the global stage, then these two Indias must converge.
Prosperity will have to come to our villages, towns and cities.

Rural India – An Emerging Powerhouse was the subject of the speech, delivered by Mr. Harish Manwani,
Chairman, Hindustan Unilever Limited, at the Annual General Meeting, held on 23 July 2012.

We have made good progress in the last two decades. There is new hope and a new sense of energy that is driving rural
India. As aspirations grow and consumption rises, rural hinterland is becoming the epicentre of our growth story.
But we must do more. Millions of people in rural India still live below the poverty line. There are a number of issues related to health, education and sanitation which need urgent attention. Agricultural growth is critical and needs to pick up.
Our agricultural productivity is among the lowest in the world and even slight improvements in yields will have a significant impact on overall growth. And yet we must go beyond agriculture if we have to make a real impact on the millions who live in rural India.
As rural India rises, growth will bring its own challenges. It will put further pressure on our scarce resources. The explosion in rural consumption and growing competition for scarce resources demands that we embrace a new collaborative model of development. All stakeholders – government,
NGOs, civil society and corporates – have a role in enabling

this growth while overcoming the attendant challenges. With the right kind of public-private partnerships we can address these challenges by finding innovative solutions and build on the opportunities.

In the modern world, education is known as the most significant source for gaining knowledge. However, Baba Naudh Singh was revered as being considerably wise, despite the fact that he was not formally educated. He explained his perspective on life, through many of his own experiences. Baba Naudh Singh conveyed the idea that; ‘Our wisdom arises from within, whereas the wisdom of people of the west arises from the outside. A pure and healthy mind seeks cleanliness outside. Anyone who daily purifies his heart, wishes also to keep himself and his surroundings clean.’ Baba Naudh Singh pointed out that out Indian system of education consisted in arousing meditation. In the words of Dinesh D’Souza during a speech he delivered to the students and faculty of Liberty University’s Convocation: “…America is a country where you can be in the driver's seat of your own life in which your destiny is not given to you; it is constructed by you.” I agree with Mr. D’Souza wholeheartedly. For centuries, America has developed a reputation for being a place of refuge. America has become a sort of Haven, or a dream come true, for many. In no other part of the world can you receive the same level of freedom in all aspects of life than you can in America. This infamous “New World” offers the opportunity for a fresh start, religious freedom, and the opportunity to obtain wealth.…

It has been five years since the infamous Osama bin Laden has been reported dead, but how about Zawahiri? It is debatable that Zawahiri might have been the mastermind behind 9/11, but people can definitely agree on one thing : he's very good at hiding. If people have something to hide people will often go to extreme measures to make sure whatever it is stays under the radar. An example of this is Zawahiri, Zawahiri security guards have reportedly married into local tribes for protection, and Zawahiri has used “green screen” technology to disguise his living conditions in video messages. Why would a person who is seemingly dangerous need this sort of contraption. Of course the U.S. officials downplay Zawahiri current importance, saying this…

His innate ability to make seemingly boring topics become interesting and relatable is my second reason that makes him a hero. We, the affirmative side, define total gun ban as prohibition against any person who bears, carries or transports firearms or other deadly weapons outside his residence or place of business and in public places even if licensed to posses or carry the same. In addition, the ban covers airguns, airsoft guns and replicas/imitations of firearms in whatever form that can cause an ordinary person to believe they are real. The only persons/entities allowed to carry firearms during elections should only be the officers and members of the Philippine National Police, Armed Forces, and other agents of law enforcement or government security agencies.”…
