I was quite shocked with the aggressiveness of the French workers, however feel like if you want to get something done then go for it, however this could be very dangerous for the executives. Like the text said the actions of employees could become violent especially if they feel they have nothing to lose. I think my reaction to these events are influenced by my culture, because if that were to happen in the United States people would go to jail for holding their mangers hostage. 2. Upon looking at Hofstede’s and the GLOBE findings I can see why France reacts the way it does toward executives. In Hofstede’s research it stated that France’s achievement and nurturing environment is weak. A nurturing work environment is defiantly not what France has according to this article. It seems to me that France does not value relationships or show sensitivity or concern for the welfare of others. It seems to me that the French executives focus more on how they are doing not so much of the wellbeing of their employees. According to GLOBES research it states that France has a moderate rating toward power distance, according to GLOBE it is defined as the degree to which members of a society expect power to be unequally shared. This meant to me that the French employees want some degree of power, and when they don’t receive it they become more assertive. 3. Managers need to be aware of external environments because it is very important to employees. A manager that managed in the 1950’s could not go about the same managing style they did in the 1950’s because of the shifting demographics of employee’s in today’s workforce. More women are out in the work force, generation y is steadily growing and the baby boomers are now retiring. The diversity is also affecting the way managers manage.
