Without a doubt there are multiple people who have earned the name and deserve to be called leaders, but there are some who do not meet the definition of a leader. Adolf Hitler is a man known best for his attempted genocide and his leadership of the German army. Many people believe he was an powerful leader but he does not meet the requirements to be a leader. Extensive research has been done over many countries and has found that honesty is the single most important characteristic in a leader (Green). Hitler did not lead with honesty and truthfulness. He did however possess other skills which make him so easily mistaken as a true leader. He was organized, had his ideas well planned out, he was extremely confident, fully committed to what he was doing and he could influence people without a problem. One person is Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln is a prime example of a man who meets the requirements and is rightfully called a leader. Lincoln showed people his leadership skills throughout his presidency most clearly through his honesty (Schneider). The nickname of honest Abe clearly illustrates how he met the more difficult requirement of honesty, but that alone is not what makes him a leader. Lincoln also showed strengths in all the other attributes that make up a leader. He was confident and able to make extremely tough decisions that could have turned out with serious consequences. He was committed to the nation and all the people under his control and did what he thought was best. He excelled in his communication skills and his way of motivating and influencing people especially in his speeches.
