Honors Forum Reflection

Entering into the Honors Program I was nervous, to say the least. Many things helped me ease into the program, but Honors Forum was one of the most helpful. The class allowed me to get know some of the other honors students, and it allowed me to get to know Rachel better. Honors Forum was a fun way to explore subjects that are not always discussed in other classes. There isn’t much I would change about the class, but I am sure there are some things that could be improved. The reading selections were all great. My least favorite of all the stories we read was probably “Sonny’s Blues.” The only reason I would change this piece is because Honor’s Students in English 111 with Dr. Faulstick also read it. My favorite of the stories we read was probably Fat Pig or Einstein’s Dreams. I enjoyed Fat Pig because we were able to talk about some serious moral issues that we all face. I enjoyed Einstein’s Dreams because it wasn’t really about morality at all. All the readings sparked very interesting conversations and I wouldn’t take any of them out, maybe just add more. I don’t know how practical it would be, but having a recommended reading list
However, I wish that there had been more forced mingling. I feel like the same people always spoke and everyone always sat next to the same people. I do not necessarily like being pushed out of my comfort zone, but I definitely held back a lot of my opinions on things because I was not sure how other people would react. That brings me to the group project. I do not know if they were assigned randomly or if some amount of thought went into the choice, but I was lucky to be stuck with a great group. I really do not like group projects, but this one was not so bad. I think doing the group project is a good idea because a lot of honors students have poor experiences with them. This was a good experience for me, and I hope it was for everyone else as
