Within the Wild Rose High School I asked teachers what their opinion on study hall is and about all of them said our school should have honors study hall. Then I asked them if our school should modify who is in studyhall and where it is. 80% of the teaches and staff said the Grade Point Average should be raised to 3.5 and the study hall should be held in an enclosed environment. This is similar to my opinion because the GPA should be raised. This …show more content…
leads to the second reason why some people think we should not have study hall.
Most teachers also commented on the fact, students are not doing homework during study hall.
Instead, they are either playing video games or going on their phone. With a raised grade point average it should not be a problem is students are on their phones or not because they are already getting their homework done if they are able to get a 3.5 GPA. Another school offering a study hall with a 3.5 GPA or higher is Kaukauna High School(Kaukauna). In my own experience, I am a person who goes on my phone during study hall, but I find it helpful for myself to do my homework at home with limited distractions. Something I do not agree with the teachers on is where the study hall should take place because they all think it should be in an enclosed environment, but I have worked hard to be able to have my freedom and alone time from teachers in the cafeteria. One compromise could be a study hall called high honors study hall. Students involved in this are the 4.0 or higher students. These students could be able to roam the hall and go to the cafeteria during their free period(HS Study
Halls).
When I asked teachers if we ever got rid of study halls what would be the outcome. The result was 50/50 to is it would be a good thing or a bad thing. Mr. Nelson said, ¨It would be a negative out some and academic may go down, but we would not know for sure until we abolished study hall. It would make since because students would lose a motivator. Though Mrs. Strausser added, ¨Students already have a goal they would like to meet and honors study hall may be a reward for good grades, but it is not a threshold to be met by many people.¨ Knowing about what I would do, without honors my grades would drop. I agree with Mr. Nelson.
In conclusion, after gathering information and the thoughts and opinions from teachers and staff. My opinion has not changed. Honors study hall can and should be held in the cafeteria. The grade point average Wild Rose Honors Students, need is 3.5. If I had to compromise, the library is another good place to hold studyhall, but in my opinion students with a 4.0 GPA or higher should have a higher reward for this time.
