Now there we were, stumbling around the kitchen, doubling over laughing because after some astute thought, we had come up with the genius idea that it would be fun to play hot potato with an actual, literal hot potato.
So, what did we do? We scavenged the refrigerator for a raw potato, stuck it in the microwave for ninety or so seconds, and then proceeded to toss the steaming hot vegetable back and forth, attempting not to burn our hands in the process, until we collapsed on the floor, dying of laughter from the hilarity of our little game. That day, I found myself feeling more comfortable and at ease around this person whom I had just met, than I did around most people. Our personalities just clicked. Little did I know that that day would embark the start of a strong friendship that formed who I am
today.
To this day, I only know that I invited Jocelyn over for a sleepover because she has relayed the story to me many times. For whatever reason, I do not remember the conversation where I invited her over taking place nor do I know what compelled me to do initiate it. However, I would like to think that God pushed me to make that decision because he knew that I needed someone just like Jocelyn in my life. That day, I stepped outside of my comfort zone, a place I loved and tended to live in, and took a chance. That simple choice made a colossal impact on my life. I gained a best friend who would give me a new perspective on life, would push me to be a better person, would be there with me through the tough times, would laugh with me over ridiculous, and who would be a constant reminder of God’s presence in my life.
