House On Mango Street Monologue
“Let’s go, Victoria.” Some random lady said to me. Her name was Tanya. I rolled my eyes. I didn’t even know this lady, yet here she was trying to tell me what to do. Apparently, she was taking me from my foster home in New York city to some random one in Dallas. As if I’d rather be in some country state than in a big city. After a day and half of driving, we were finally pulling up to my new ‘home’. I jump out the car before Tanya even got a chance to put it in park. It way hotter down here than it was in New York. I’m pretty sure it was at least a hundred degrees outside. She started walking towards the foster home. I walked in the opposite direction. I don’t know why people keep trying to help me. I just want to be left alone.
“Vic-” I cut Tanya off before she could finish.

Where I was going, I don’t know. I rolled my eyes, hearing her run after me.
“Jesus, Victoria. We’re just trying to help you. Don’t you want to live in a house? With a family?” this lady didn’t know me. I don’t want to live with a random group of people and just pretend they’re my family. I’m not doing it. And I’m not staying here. I eyed her before speaking,
“I don’t know you. How do I know I can trust you?” I folded my arms over my chest. I could tell by the frown on her face that Tanya was getting frustrated with me. She let out a long deep sigh and grabbed my arm.
“I don’t have time for this Victoria…” we stepped into the building, the breeze hitting us fiercely. Tanya let go of my arm walking away to some other lady. I just stood to myself in a corner. I had my arms crossed, observing the room. There were little kids playing around. Probably tag. The older kids were doing some homework, probably, or they were watching tv.
