Alexander used his intelligence in unifying his empire by spreading the greek culture and customs as well as being exceedingly tolerant. Spreading greek culture made it easier for people to understand and communicate with one another, therefore resulting in less rebellions. Alexander is also known for showing mercy toward those who sought it. During the invasion of Tyrians, Alexander ordered all men, women, and children to be murdered except the ones who sought out sanctuary in the temple. Not many generals are willing to show mercy toward their inferiors, which makes him distinguishable from others. Alexander the Great is well known for his innovative military strategies. In a fight to cross the Hydaspes River Alexander enemy Pocus set up camp with his army of elephants. He devised a plan to make a lot of noise to the sides of camps in order to confuse the enemy while rushing the camp with his cavalry. The noise caused the elephants to trampling Pocus’ men and left his army very weak, making it easy for Alexander to swoop up and attack the enemy.
