How Did Abraham Lincoln Contribute To The Civil War

Abraham Lincoln is most famous for leading the US during the Civil War. First, he was determined to make and keep the United States together. He called for an army to defeat the southern states. The war lasted for four years and about 600,000 Americans died during that time. Second, in the January of 1863; during the civil war, President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. This order allowed all slaves in the southern countries to be free, while not all were freed at first most slaves were freed. Third, later that year in November, Lincoln gave the famous speech called the Gettysburg Address. Although it lasted only about three minutes it is one of the greatest speeches in American history.
