How Did My 4-H's Influenced My Goals
4-H has influenced my goals for the future by making serving others and working hard my top two priorities. The value of community service was so engrained in me as I grew through 4-H that it has become a part of my every day life. I am the happiest when I am working with and for those in need. The value of hard work was also engrained in me through 4-H. I worked hard completing numerous projects, from the hours I spent at the library studying geology to the hours I spent outdoors taming my garden. These projects taught me that while the work may be hard and long, the reward of a job well done is always worth it. The 4-H program has additionally assisted me in the long process of narrowing down the millions of career options to just one. …show more content…
They said they would love to have me around and we scheduled two weeks for me to job shadow. It was difficult the first couple of days. I was not used to standing all day and was surprised at how easily my feet tired out. I helped deliver flowers to wedding, arrange flowers for the local hospital coolers and for the floral shop's cooler. I organized three walls of ribbon and hundreds of vases. I learned a huge variety of skills such as: learning how to use florist foam, water beads and glass marbles in arrangements, how to identify different arrangement shapes and in-vision the finished piece, how to clean flowers, what many of the common flowers names were along with the three F’s (filler, foliage and focal), how to clean and sort vases, how to match a variety of flowers together, how to use florist glue, and how to wire flowers. I also learned how to make different styles of arrangements from modern or classy to shabby chic. The professionals I learned from were encouraging and helpful. Opportunities like this one helped me find what parts I enjoyed in jobs and what parts I would prefer to avoid. This valuable intell helped me decide what career would be my best

For my service this year, I was involved with Applecross Opal Nursing Home. Opal age care was a great help to me in opening my eyes to the desperate need for an extra pair of hands and the importance of nursing homes. Not only to the individual admitted in, but also to their families and friends. As I would arrive at 12.00 every time, I would go straight into lending a hand with lunch. Handing out the meals, packing away, cleaning up and keeping an eye on a few of the residents was my first job done. Then I would wonder through the compound talking to the residents, playing and colouring in with them and I would gather and assist them to and from their rooms. With all these jobs, you had to keep a look out for and take extra care with some of the more dependant residents.…

Being a leader in 4-H, I have taken on many roles to make the 4-H experience a memorable and very enjoyable. One of my more recent projects was creating a six week Cloverbud Science Club. After school, the cloverbuds in the Perham School District would come to the Science Club and learn various science topics including space, water, and chemistry. I prepared the lesson, taught, and cleaned up. Besides teaching, I became a quick problem solver when it came to a conflict. I learned how long the youth could focus on a project and how to explain the results from their experiments. This science program was the first taste of 4-H many of these students had, but it made their 4-H experience a fun and memorable journey. By implementing these programs,…

I have always cherished the value of service and its effects on communities. A school class that I take that promotes service is Student Senate. A requirement for that class is ten hours of community service per trimester, and I have been a part of this group since sophomore year. This class is all about improving our school and creating an enjoyable environment for our students to be in. An example of this would be when I helped decorate the halls during themed weeks such as Spirit Week and Winterfest along with my fellow classmates.…

I was awarded a wonderful education at Windham High School, but beyond the information I retained, I also learned what is important in life. At first, I thought all that mattered was the clothes you wore, what makeup you had on, and who you were friends with. There is more to life than all that. I love helping others and my induction into the National Honor Society allowed me to do just that, especially in my four service projects I had the opportunity to lead and be a part of. I try to please people and make sure they are always happy and I now know it is most important to give back to the community who gave me so much.…

If there is one that 4-H has taught me the most it is to help others. In 4-H we do so many community service projects to help out the community. I have helped with many of them every year. Club, which has taught me a lot of different skills, but the biggest skill that I feel most affected me in learning is taking action. Every year in H.O.P.E. we would decide to raise money and awareness for a different cause. My freshman year we decided to buy life straws for people in need in different countries. We got to witness how the life straws works by putting a lot of dirty water in a container and the drinking it with the life straw. During my sophomore year we decide to get a hydration station for the elementary and middle school kids. I really loved this experience because I still remember how excited the kids were to get their turn on filling up their canteens. It felt really good being able to educate the kids about recycling and using canteens instead of water bottles, so they use less plastic bottles. During junior year we raised money to help give a jungle gym to G3. This year we decided that we wanted to give money to make a well for people that have to walk miles just to get fresh water. The H.O.P.E. Club has really helped me learn that anyone can take action on problems in the world that are big or small. We just have to dedicate time and effort to get things…
