What I Learned In 4-H
4-H has been an extraordinary experience that has fulfilled my childhood and made me the person I am today. Being a part of 4-H has impacted my life in ways no other club or activity could. As a child, I learned compassion, respect and responsibility by caring for my livestock. As an officer for many years, I learned public speaking skills, I am able to talk to my peers without being shy, as so many kids are, I learned how to stay organized and how to lead a whole group to an end goal. With the skills I have learned in 4-H, I am able to use them in everyday life, including school. I learned to be responsible, to finish my tasks by the deadline and how to persevere. If something is difficult, I learned in 4-H to not give up. It took me three years and three fairs to win my first poultry showmanship belt buckle, it took me three years and three fairs to finally win Round Robin as the overall Champion Showman. And it took me seven years and overcoming a fractured vertebra in my spine to win my first belt buckle for Senior High Point Gymkhana. Without learning how important hard work and dedication is through 4-H I wouldn’t have the dedication to have good grades and know that hard work pays off in the end. I know without a doubt, if it were not for 4-H I would not be the …show more content…
Some even become faint at the thought. I, however, have grown up speaking to crowds of people. I have become much more confident in what I say. I am comfortable in front of others because of being an officer for many years in 4-H. Each meeting I would help and speak to my entire 4-H Club. I do not become shy when others speak to me. These skills are important as I have used them everywhere; in school as a LINK leader, helping my fellow peers, and even conquering something as small as asking for an extra side of ketchup at the counter of a fast food restaurant. 4-H allows and helps kids to become confident and respectful

The 4-H Program has helped to prepare me for a secondary education by teaching me life long skills, skills like knowing how to manage difficult situations, having the ability to seek out resources and the ability to think critically. In college there will be times when I have to be able to manage difficult situations. I will be able to do this by using critical thinking strategies I have learned throughout the 12 years I've been in 4H. The solution is not always obtainable on ones own, but like I have also learned I don't have to do everything on my own so I will use my resources to be able to concur my challenges.…

Being a leader in 4-H, I have taken on many roles to make the 4-H experience a memorable and very enjoyable. One of my more recent projects was creating a six week Cloverbud Science Club. After school, the cloverbuds in the Perham School District would come to the Science Club and learn various science topics including space, water, and chemistry. I prepared the lesson, taught, and cleaned up. Besides teaching, I became a quick problem solver when it came to a conflict. I learned how long the youth could focus on a project and how to explain the results from their experiments. This science program was the first taste of 4-H many of these students had, but it made their 4-H experience a fun and memorable journey. By implementing these programs,…

I was awarded a wonderful education at Windham High School, but beyond the information I retained, I also learned what is important in life. At first, I thought all that mattered was the clothes you wore, what makeup you had on, and who you were friends with. There is more to life than all that. I love helping others and my induction into the National Honor Society allowed me to do just that, especially in my four service projects I had the opportunity to lead and be a part of. I try to please people and make sure they are always happy and I now know it is most important to give back to the community who gave me so much.…

One of my most defining experiences to date has been my involvement with the colorguard squad at my school. The colorguard squad is an auxiliary unit that is part of the marching band. We perform with the band at Friday night football games during halftime while spinning flags and rifles to the music. To me, colorguard is so much more than that. Freshman year when I went to tryouts I was terrified. I did not have any friends trying out with me; I was walking into a gym full of older girls whom I had never met. To my surprise, being on the squad for the past three years has been such a defining achievement during high school for me. Without the squad I would have had a completely different experience in school. I learned the value of hard work…

Being a 4-H member for 10 years, I can proudly say that nothing has taught me more than the program of 4-H. 4-H is a youth development program that focuses on agriculture, public speaking, engineering, technology, science and youth leadership for kids ages 5-19. 4-H has been around for one hundred and eleven years but in today’s society, very few people know what it is. I have grown up around animals and 4-H, learned many life lessons, responsibility, how to have friendly competition with people i have grown up with.…

I am not sure what typ of pulic speaking that would make me uncomfortable, because I have not had to do anything other than speak in front of an class or at work. I think if I had to decide than I would Have to say that I think if I had to speak in front of thousands of people I would feel a bit uncomfortable only for a short minute and then I would eventually relax. I would only feel that discomfort then is because the thought of all those people giving me their attention would overwhelm me. After, I could grasp that whole concept , I feel like I would be fine and more confident. My confidence would increase soley because of the attention that I would be getting from my audience. So I guess no type of public speaking would have me terrified for a long period of time. As time would…

Club, which has taught me a lot of different skills, but the biggest skill that I feel most affected me in learning is taking action. Every year in H.O.P.E. we would decide to raise money and awareness for a different cause. My freshman year we decided to buy life straws for people in need in different countries. We got to witness how the life straws works by putting a lot of dirty water in a container and the drinking it with the life straw. During my sophomore year we decide to get a hydration station for the elementary and middle school kids. I really loved this experience because I still remember how excited the kids were to get their turn on filling up their canteens. It felt really good being able to educate the kids about recycling and using canteens instead of water bottles, so they use less plastic bottles. During junior year we raised money to help give a jungle gym to G3. This year we decided that we wanted to give money to make a well for people that have to walk miles just to get fresh water. The H.O.P.E. Club has really helped me learn that anyone can take action on problems in the world that are big or small. We just have to dedicate time and effort to get things…
