Exercise
To begin, exercise is a physical process in which you do physical activities to get your heart rate up. Exercise is important because without it, we will not be healthy and our body will not be able to go through their natural processes as easily. Exercise can affect your lungs (by not getting winded as easily), your heart (strengthening it), and many more of your important organs. The article I read was about a new study done by the Black Dog Institute. The study proved that exercising at least once a week has prevented depression. According to their study, 12% of depression cases could have been prevented if the participants exercised, for even twenty minutes a week. Although, …show more content…
Your body stores energy, also known as ATP, inside of muscle and other tissues in the form of the carbohydrate glycogen. This stored glycogen can last for up to 15 to 20 minutes of physical activity. For quick and short bursts of energy, the body uses previously stored ATP made by lactic acid fermentation. But when you exercise for longer than 90 seconds, cellular respiration generates ATP to have enough energy to continue exercising. After learning this in class, it makes it easier for me to connect that when your body goes through cellular respiration, this somehow helps you prevent depression. I believe that it has something to do with strengthening your heart, in which when cellular respiration occurs, actually happens.
In addition, I have learned that exercise is linked to help prevent depression. I still have a few questions on how this works. I want to know what happens from your muscles to your brain that would help to stop the depressed thoughts. Does cellular respiration taking effect, help you with this problem? Is there something about sweating, getting your heart rate up and breathing heavier that helps you to take your mind off of your problems? Overall, I found this very interesting to read, and I am interested to look into this discovery more and see how it develops clearer in upcoming
