His father was an example of what he didn’t want to be like once Oknonkwo was older. Oknonkwo didn’t want the village to laugh at him for being weak. That’s one of the reasons he killed Ikemefuna. Ikemefuna’s death was a trigger for Nwoye to hate his own father. Oknonkwo couldn’t stand the fact that Nwoye didn’t want to be by his side and follow his footsteps. Since the event of Ikemefuna death, Nwoye became a different person. His father hated the idea of Nwoye being a “woman” and for his son to be acting like this upsets him. That’s why Oknonkwo began to notice Ezinma. Ezinma was a female who willing to do a man’s job. Oknonkwo had always wished for Nwoye to be like Ezinma.
