The Social, Economic, and Cultural effects of September 11th, 2001
Most people around the world remember the two American passenger planes crashing into the Twin Towers on September 11th, 2001. American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airline Flight 175 will never be forgotten. These two planes that were piloted by members of the terrorist group Al-Qaeda, will be remembered as causing the deaths of approximately 3,000 innocent people. The attacks made out on September 11th, 2001 were said to be the largest acts of terror any nation has faced. Aside from the two planes being crashed into the World Trade Center, American Airlines Flight 77 was intentionally crashed into the Pentagon, the United States Department of Defense. United Airlines Flight 93 was also targeted to hit Washington, D.C, however the plane crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. The attacks of 9/11 not only had effects on America but also drastically affected the entire world. Many of these effects can be looked upon as positives or negatives but in general the world completely changed due to the attacks made by Al-Qaeda. The attacks on 9/11 affected the whole on a micro and macro level. These attacks affected social, political, economical, religious, and cultural matters across the whole world.
By America being attacked, the social aspects of the world have been changed. Benjamin Franklin stated that, “Those who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.” Due to the recent terrorist attacks the United States government has implicated a new bill that allows the military to detain whomever they feel is a terrorist free of trial even if they’re American citizens. President Obama recently signed this bill, called the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). This bill takes away the liberties that Benjamin Franklin said were essential. The NDAA is an
