How To Improve School Lunches
School Lunches Everyone has gotten lunch from their school before. To some, it is just easier. A student just has to grab a tray, pick out their food, pay, and eat. However, are students really getting healthy foods? If not, school lunches should be improved so students are eating healthier foods. At our middle school, you just type in your school number and tell them what you want. They then just give you the food. This means that the school has no control if the students eat healthy food. No matter what, school lunches should have fresh produce. It is okay to have items that are considered junk food on the menu, but kids shouldn’t be allowed to only pick out those items without some fresh produce. The other problem is kids picking out fresh produce, and just throwing it away. In a school survey of 59 seventh grade students, 50% wanted more organic foods and less processed foods. The food that is given to students should look fresh and like something kids would want to consume. For example, if one school had a lunch with carrots in plastic bags when another has just carrots, which looks more appetizing? The carrots that are out in the open. The school should also encourage kids to eat healthy food by changing the way food is cooked and how it looks. If students don’t like broccoli raw, then cook it or roast it. Add different types of seasoning or spices to change the taste. If a school cooks say apples in three different ways. Each time they serve the apples, cook them differently so the students don’t bored of the same food. A school shouldn’t serve the same five meals every week because students will get bored and won’t eat

In addition, junk food caps your energy, which affects your physical activity. You cannot perform your best if you don’t have any energy. Children should be eating more healthy, natural foods.…

If they eat eight hundred calorie meals and they only eat one fourth they only get two hundred of those calories. That's possibly for a high school student that plays three sports a year that won't be home until after six or seven o'clock.…

School lunches lack healthy nutrients that growing children and teens need. Because, schools lack the proper funding needed to support students with healthy lunches, students have a horrible diet. A lot of people, including myself, believe that if healthy school lunches were provided students at home would make better choices when it came to what snacks they ate between meals. If schools got better funding for healthier lunches it could theoretically save the government more money because the students in turn would have less health problems.…
