Definition of body language:
Body language is a form of non-verbal communication, which consists of body posture, gestures, facial expressions, and eye movements. Humans send and interpret such signals almost entirely subconsciously.
John Borg attests that human communication consists of 93 percent body language and paralinguistic cues, while only 7% of communication consists of words themselves.
Significance of body language:
Verbal communication is only one way that you show others emotion, approval, disappointment and confidence when working together. They way we walk, position ourselves while talking and the facial expression we use tells a lot about our abilities, way of communication or dealings and current states of mind.
Research on the role of body language in communication:
Different researches were carried out in 19’s on the role of body language.
Most common and amazing results are as followings: * During communication only 7% of the information human transmits to others is in the language you use. * 38% how people speak - quality of voice, accent, voice projection, emphasis, expression, pace, volume, pitch etc. * 55% Body language - posture, position, eye contact, facial expression, head and body movements, gestures, touch etc. Importance of using confident body language in career growth:
1999 a survey was carried out of 200 companies HR department.
The result for the survey showed that during the hiring process 70% of the candidate failed due to poor body language at the initial level.
The survey also indicated that positive body language of an employee help in a progressive career.
