In “The Yellow Wallpaper”, Charlotte Perkins Gilman skillfully uses a simple wallpaper to display as a symbolic reference to the domestic lifestyle many women live on an everyday basis. The main character Jane is depicted as a sickly housewife who has been ordered to bed rest by her husband John and is slowly loses grips with reality in the fantasy of her “Yellow Wallpaper”. Should it be a right of every citizen to bear arms? The public, politicians, and many organizations have pursued this question, which in return has transformed this issue into a widespread topic. The various shootings across the United States have led me to the debate of the government controlling firearms. In the beginning of our country’s creation, the Founding Fathers constructed the Constitution to define the United States’ government. Inside the Constitution includes the Bill of Rights, which was signed in 1791. This includes the Second Amendment stating, "…a well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” Throughout the years, the debate on firearm control has increased after many citizens have questioned the safety of the public. It is up to the liberal lawmakers and the citizens to acknowledge firearm rights and recognize the laws constitutionally. Many wonder which is constitutional on the opinion of firearm control.…
In a dusty, dirty street corner in the lap of Thailand, a three-year old boy sits cross-legged with soot across his forehead and a Styrofoam cup rattling with coins. You avoid his eyes. Yours glide from one point to the other, lingering carefully just above his head. If you don’t make eye contact, you don’t feel guilt. If you don’t make eye contact then you don’t come to terms with the fact that this three year old is a slave and is embarking on a life without love, a life without freedom, and a life without personal relationships. If you don’t make eye contact, you didn’t see him right? If you don’t make eye contact, then you never did anything wrong.…
For this assignment, the blog I choose was Thefbomb. I choose this website because I find it interesting how people my age, current or rising college students, are approaching feminisms and becoming aware of what is happening. Thefbomb is true to their word of being “a blog/community created by and for teen and college-aged women and men who care about their rights and want to be heard.” It is true to its word because of the way the page is set up, the main page has recent news/articles, and then there are tabs set up that categorize it all into different sections. But it’s not just that but the page also allows for others to contribute to the page. There is even a creative page to poems and personal stories.…
The Psychrolutes marcidus also known as the blobfish lives in the deep waters of Australia and Tasmania, as well as some of the waters of New Zealand. The blobfish also survives in the Sunlit Ocean Zone which gets light underwater. The temperature in this zone ranges from -3 to 40 degrees celsius. This type of fish can be found in the waters as deep as 100 meters to 2800 meters. The pressure is 60 to 120 times greater than at sea level. The blobfish's skin is mostly a gelatinous mass with a density less than water. This is one of their many important adaptations. Their flesh allows the fish to float above the seafloor without using most of their energy while swimming. Due to its low density flesh, the blobfish's shape and appearance is different…
In most people’s eyes, the word sick is the meaning of an individual’s health being subpar. My definition of sick is true definition and much more. I have several different meanings of the word. Did you know statistics show that more than 30% of American citizens are overweight or obese? The United States of America is ranked at #1 for having the highest amount of obese people in a country. In society today we look at magazines and movies and strive to be just like the people we see. The guys in these magazines have six packs and arms with muscles the size of Mt. Everest. And the girls are all size double zeros with no meat anywhere on their bodies. A lot of Americans work out and diet to accomplish the goal of having these body types, but some go to drastic measures to get it. Many eating disorders and their side effects are taking over the lives of Americans every day.…
