I am a senior at Salesianum High School and I pride myself on integrity, loyalty and respect. It is with these characteristics that I have bettered my teammates and school while being a student-athlete. Through hard work and dedication, I earned varsity letters for both ice hockey and lacrosse. I was named captain of my ice hockey team and played on the 2016 Delaware State Championship lacrosse team. Furthermore, I am a natural …show more content…
born leader, a skill that has matured in me through success in both athletics and academics.
As a student athlete, my academics come first. I have a proven track record regarding my studies. I worked extremely hard to bring my cumulative GPA to a 3.46. Outside of the classroom, I attended Boys State in Dover which enhanced my knowledge of a functioning government. We focused on making a difference through lawmaking at the local, county and state level. Additionally, I attended the Delaware State Police Trooper Youth Academy that consisted of a highly regimented military schedule straight down to the shaved head. These experiences strengthened my aspiration to serve my country by attending a United States Service Academy including the service years that follow.
As a Salesian, I have offered my time to my community.
I embrace the challenge to make a difference through service by cleaning yards at local schools and recreation centers, and guiding underprivileged children on healthy eating options. However, the most inspirational service for me is being part of the annual ice hockey game, “Hockey for a Cause.” This will be my fourth year participating in this special event that raises money and awareness to help children with intellectual disabilities through DFRC. The light that shines in the smiles of the children that day left an impression on me that will last a
lifetime.
Whether I am helping my teammates grow as athletes, focusing on my grades and responsibilities as a student, or working hand in hand with the community to make a difference, I can look back and be thankful for the youth ice hockey program at the University of Delaware. I am the skater battling in the corners for the puck against guys three times my size, because I know how to dig deep. Likewise, when I fall down, I get back up. Ice Hockey has instilled in me loyalty, leadership and humility, traits that will always be a part of my character, even when the skates are hung up for the last time.
