How I Spend My Time

07 March 2011

How I Spend my Time … Okay, so I am going to attempt to write about how I spend my time. My days are not typical; I would have to write a book to explain how my time is spent, so I am going to dive into this analysis and hopefully you will get the idea of how my time has been used since starting college. One day I was a wife, the next day I was a mother, and then I woke up one morning a college student. Let me tell you, being a student and having to make time for studying and homework is a huge chore when you have a family. I wish I could stop the clock sometimes and catch my breath. Every day seems like a rushed dream. You know the kind of dream that you do not get to enjoy because you did not get to see someone or do something long enough before you wake up? I have been feeling that way recently about my new schedule. Between going to college, family and my job, I feel like I need to have a few clones of myself to keep everything done because I am not the best at organizing my time. I am going to tell you, first, I love being a wife and mother. Recently though, since I started college I feel like I do not have enough time for my husband and children. I have been struggling with starting something new like college and taking on more responsibility at my age and time in my life. School has really taken up a lot of my time and energy; it is as demanding of my time as my kids are! A great professor named Mrs. Jennifer Emery told me to keep a weekly schedule of my time and to write down my roles by using the time sheet and list all the goals I want to meet per role. At last, maybe I have a solution to help me spend my time wisely so I will have time to play games with my kids or go on “ date night “ with my husband while keeping my studies up as well. It has been a week and my time sheet is finished now. I have my roles and goals written down. I can see that it is

Trying to juggle family while going back to school at 38 years old has been very hard. I am older now so that means that my children are older too. I no longer have little ones who demand so much of my attention. My children range between the ages of 19 and 16. I have one child in college and four in high school. You would think that things would be calmer and move more at a slower pace but things do not. Between football, band, booster club meetings, and kids’ work schedules things at home are very hectic. By the time, I get home from work…

I decided to go ahead with making changes to my routine in just the few weeks since I have decided to return to college. I have taken a look at my work schedule and found time where I can squeeze in class work. Previously I would go out to eat for lunch with the people I work with but now I bring my lunch and eat at my desk. The upside is I get to do class work and save money at the same time. I’ve also found about an hour of free time in the morning before soldiers show up for class. This time is great for taking my quiz because it is very quiet and I can concentrate. Making these few small changes has helped me still get to spend some time in the afternoon with my wife and kids.…

While the world is a place very demanding of your time when it comes to television, social networking, cell phones, and friends and family, you have to be able to prioritize what is important to what is optional. One has to approach school as an added duty in one’s life. I must add an extra responsibility to my daily chores and activities. I am venturing into an activity I have not done any schooling for over 30 plus years now. School is something I must learn all over again. This changes our everyday routines to a point that we all must learn to work well with this new education. I am glad that in the past I had learned great tools to work with while working on these new responsibilities. Making it great while I was getting my A.S. degree in Florida Tech College out of Orlando, FL. Back then everything was paper and pencil or pen. Now I see an all new era of schooling and especially online. I force myself to get things done early, just like I do when I need to be somewhere for an appointment. I arrive much earlier than requested so I have time to sit and plan what will be going on at this appointment. I turn that into the same here with my online class. I don't like to be late for anything even dinner at home. Work on my college activities and required assignments take on the same aspect that I apply to my personal life. Both must be taken on with kid gloves. But as long as I keep in mind the goals created for school and stick to them I should have no trouble working out any obstacles that come my…

Also I don’t have any kids which I think makes it much easier for me to concentrate on my studies. Currently I work at a law firm here in the British Virgin Islands which gets real busy on certain days and on a regular day it’s not that busy.…

Since I have started class it has been very difficult to manage my time between going to work and coming home to do my assignments that are due. To be more effective, I decide to make a list of the things I need to do and the date on which they are due on. Normally, I work about fifty to seventy hours a week, ten in the morning until eight or later at night. I typically do my assignments when I get home from work. When I have extra time I try to do some assignments before they are due so that it will keep me ahead in the class.…

Time management is one of the top reasons that made me continue to put going back to school off for a couple of years. No matter how many times I talked myself into it, I just couldn't see myself taking time away from my children and husband to spend in a classroom. However, by setting a schedule for certain things I am still able to enjoy the time with my family. “Balanced with the stress of the added responsibilities, students have reported spending time with their families as the biggest stress reducer” (Canales-Gonzales & Kranz, 2008).…

I have been in and out of college for the past 10-12 years and in that time I have made many mistakes and learned from them. Maturity has also played a large role in my failures and successes in college. Time management has been one of the toughest challenges I have faced while taking college classes. Being an active duty United States Marine, I find myself working 15 hours days, traveling and spending the majority of my time away from home. With that being said, I have had to learn how to manage my time and prioritize tasks and events in my life. Finishing my degree is very important to me and as I matured over the years I have had to evaluate my priorities and make sacrifices in order to achieve my personal goals. Now that I am further along in my degree program I am finding that the classes are getting more challenging and require more out of me. This also means that I have to spend more time teaching myself and adapting to the requirements of the class. Juggling all of this along with my job and trying to spend quality time with my family is hard. When I get stressed out or overwhelmed I like to refer to a quote I heard a long time ago, “It’s supposed to be hard. If it were easy everyone would do it.” (Tom Hanks) in A league of their own [Motion picture]. United States: Columbia…

How I Spend My Free Time

As a student, I am quite busy on weekdays. However, at weekends, I have much free time, so I usually spend it on relaxing to prepare for a coming busy week. First of all, in my free time, I like playing some sports, such as soccer, badminton or basketball, with my friends. Sport not only makes me stronger but also connects me with my friends who have the same hobbies. We sometimes go riding in order that we can combine sporting activity and sightseeing. If the weather is not fine enough for me to hang out with my friends, I like to read books. I have a big bookshelf with many kinds of books but I prefer science books. Through these books, my knowledge is gradually enlarged. Thirdly, I also love to listen to music from pop, rock 'n roll to rap or melody. I can listen to music at any place with a small but modern Ipod which is my father's gift for my 18th birthday. Sometimes, I dance freely when listening to my favorite songs. Music really paints my life. Last but not least, I spend my free time on surfing on Internet. I can chat with my friends from very far distance or log on websites to read online news. With Internet, I update many things without having to go anywhere. I can also study English through some interesting websites. (If I have very difficult exercises and cannot solve them by myself, I will visit Google Answers and have somebody to help me. Just like this one ^^). In conclusion, I want to use all of my free time to relax and connect with other…
