The readings went well, however I feel I've been taking this course to lightly and will try to do devote more time to study as opposed to merely reading the material. With the Upcoming written test, this may be an ideal opportunity to reevaluate my knowledge and supplement it where appropriate. Doing more actual coding of the presented ideas would also benefit me greatly.
Discussion Forum
The discussion forum this week was difficult, time consuming, and incredibly brilliant. There are so many forms and permutations to the for loop and for-each loop that it may take years to master them all. Getting the sample code to run cleanly for each version posed a significant challenge. This is perhaps why the vast majority of the sample code in the student responses where buggy. There where however, a number of notable exceptions, which provided me with the solution to my own coding issues. My grade assessment for the post came in at 9/10. Had the assessors left a comment as to where my work was deficient, I would have welcomed the grade. Alas some people do not give out 10s, even though they have no problems receiving them. I had an idea to start attaching a small java program to my discussion forum replies which includes all the sample code included in my post. It's a …show more content…
bit of extra work but I need the coding practice and building up a library of samples couldn't hurt.
Quiz
First pass through the quiz resulted in a couple of incorrect answers. The first was carelessness whereas the second (and last question) was lack of knowledge. The was a question on whether a for loop could be continue indefinitely. Had I done my discussion research first I would never have gotten it wrong. The second pass through corrected those problems.
Written Assignment.
This week I nearly didn't get my assignment submitted on time. In the future I will upload the work in stages so that the impact of unforeseen circumstances are minimized. Besides my own technical issues, the uopeople.edu web site appears to be having some performance issues which made uploading files difficult. I also had problems finding the TextIO.java file to download. Although it wasn't needed for this weeks work, it appears to be a required component for future assignments.
Summary
This week I managed to fry my laptop.
It was a power short at the power socket. Having a decent electronics lab I managed to rewire it but a number of components where shot. By jury rigging the mother board, it managed to limp through the week, however it was a significant source of frustration. Troubles aside, I still managed to complete all my work, so am reasonably satisfied with this weeks performance. Today I ordered a new computer and managed to borrow an old but serviceable. machine just in case. Crap happens, so it's best to have a fall back plan. Looking forward, I'm hoping the coming week is uneventful so I can apply myself in preparation to next weeks written
tests.
