In order to be fully aware of the strengths and weakness the nurse needs to explore the driving force of their work. Nursing as a human science assist nurses and or nurses to be in being more aware of the richness that as nurses she or he can bring to patient’s care as well as to the collaborating team. Citing the Philosophy of the Nursing Department at Lehman College, “everyone experiences the world differently and has a particular way of seeing the world”. That is where the importance of the personal awareness lies which denotes the importance of personal awareness in the development and delivery of nursing practice.
2. One concept that stood out to you this semester was humanistic nursing. According to Paterson and Zderad (1979) “humanistic nursing is an intersubjective transaction aimed at nurturing well-being and more-being, its ‘stuff’ includes all possible human and interhuman responses” (p. 8). The Philosophy of the Nursing Department at Lehman College alludes to the importance of nurses and nurses to be, to have “inter-subjective relationships as well as self-development and self-awareness”
That concept of humanistic nursing and intersubjectivity helped me understand that experiences assist in understanding our uniqueness. According to Paterson & Zderad (1976) nursing experiences affects the patient-nurse encounter and it is important to be aware and learn that there are variations in every human being.
