Of students ages 12-18, about fourteen percent reported that they were made fun of, called names, or insulted(National Center for Educational Statistics). In the article, “The Barbershop”, Vershawn Ashanti Young states how he is seen gay in the barbershop he goes to, even though he isn't. He states, “ This performance is even more difficult for those who are gay or taken as gay, as i sometimes am, because we are often estranged in these spaces”. By the same token, Sean O'Brien had a more weighted experience. Sean O’Brien flew to Hollywood for an event in which he started dancing. Many photos were taken at the event and he stood out of them all. Sean gained some praise and happy comments while in turn many body shamed him. Mirror writes, “A cruel onlooker posted pictures of him dancing and mocked him online”. While it became a very bad issue, it manifested into something positive. Sean appeared on the Today Show and threw the first pitch at a Dodgers game.
