This study was conducted to determine the knowledge and farming management practices as a basis for a training program for Ilocano Farmers. Specifically, it sougth to answer the following questions:

d. Trainings attended,
e. Income from rice farming,
f. Farming experience,
g. Land tenure,
h. Land area,
i. Variety of rice, and
j. Average yield (tons)?
2. What is the level of knowledge of Ilocano farmers as to:
a. Soil nutrients, and
b. Weed and pest prevention:

This was measured by their score in the pretest examination.
Average yield refers to the amount of rice produced in tons per hectare. Cropping pattern pertains to the design or model used yearly by Ilocano farmers in their crops. Educational background refers to the degree finished by the farmers such as elementary graduate, high school graduate, college graduate, and other degrees higher than college level. Farming experience denotes the length of time that farmers spent at the farm.
Fertilizers refer to the substances that are added into the soil like compost, commercial fertilizer and manures in order to make the soil fertile.
Frequency of Application refers to the duration on how many times the farmers apply fertilizer.
Gender refers to the sex of farmers as male or female.
Ilocano Farmers refers to the individuals who cultivates rice in the Province of Ilocos Sur during the dry season of the calendar year September 2015 to March 2016.

Material Design refers to the Instructional Educational Material (IEC) that was used during the training in a brochure form. It comprises pictures and information about rice farming management practices which were based from the results of the assessment.
Nature of Fertilizer and Pesticides pertain to the chemical components of fertilizers and pesticides used by Ilocano farmers based on the type, kind and source.
Nutrient Management Practices refer to proper process or act of managing the soil nutrients by Ilocano farmers in order to supply and maintain the right kind and amount of essential nutrients for the growing rice.
Pedagogy Training refers to the proposed training design for farmers. The training includes topics and activities to be undertaken which were based from the results of the assessment on nutrient and pest management practices.
Pesticides refer to chemicals such as insecticides, herbicides, fungicides and the like that are used to control or eliminate pest that may damage the rice.
Pesticide Prevention refers to the application of pesticides, hand weeding, baiting, water management and botanical pest control of Ilocano farmers in order to reduce the population of pest that damage
